Neu batteries!?

Hi, Has anyone tried the NeuEnergy 5000mha 25/50c Lithium battery in a hard case?? And for $95 each they sound like a good deal.

Serum 11.04.2007 03:51 AM

they sure are a good deal!

From what i've heard from Mike, they are as good as flightpower packs.

mmdooley 11.04.2007 07:27 AM

I know when I am going to make the jump to LiPo's. :yipi: NOW!! :yipi:

phildogg 11.04.2007 08:17 AM

where you find them for 95? if you don't mind me asking.

BP-Revo 11.04.2007 03:09 PM

Neu's website.

Matthew_Armeni 11.04.2007 04:23 PM

It looks like the 2100 4S packs are $95, I couldn't only find prices for the 2100 packs, the other ones don't seem to be up.

Is this where you were looking? I dont see any hardcase's????

On edit: this must be where you were looking: http://www.neumotors.com/20061222/Car%20batteries%20.html

mmdooley 11.05.2007 06:46 PM

Yep, those are the ones. When I buy these what will I need to take care of them? I have an ICE charger, I assume I will need a lvc but don't what else.

You'll also need a balancer if you don't have one, or the proper balancing tap adapter if you do have one already.

rschoi_75 11.05.2007 08:51 PM

I ordered two of them a few days ago! I can't wait to get them, but I have no clue when they are coming in. No confirmation email or anything yet.

If Mike ever started carrying them in his store, I'd buy from here in a heartbeat. At least I would know if they were in stock and exactly when I would be receiveing them. I'm kinda hanging in the wind right now...

btw, they come with hyperion style balance tabs.

I am sorry Skellyo, You lost me a little. I don't have a balancer, And What would be the proper tap adapter?? Does that mean I need to get a balancer and a tap adapter both? And does it matter what brand balancer or tap adapter I get?
Thanks for the help

AAngel 11.06.2007 01:54 AM

The last battery pack that I ordered from Neu took about two weeks to get.

dadnjesse 11.06.2007 10:19 PM

You'll need to find out what kind of taps are on the Neu packs first off. Typically, they'll either be Hyperion or Thunder Power. Once you know what kind of taps you have, you can either buy a balancer that is made to mate to that style tap, or you can buy a balancer and a tap adapter. I think the best thing to do would be to find out what style taps are on the packs and get back with us here so we can recommend balancers/tap adapters for you.

That sucks, I may have another week and a half to wait then.

lincpimp 11.06.2007 11:16 PM

They appear to be 2s lipos. There are 3 balance wires coming out of the pack. $95 sounds like a good deal to me. Aren't the neu cells the same as the flightpower/trakpower cells?

mmdooley 11.07.2007 01:24 AM

Thanks for the help Skellyo  . I ordered two yesterday so in about 2 weeks I will get them. I think I will call Neu and find out what kind of taps are on the batteries so I can get what I need on order to.

Serum said they were as good as Flightpower.

NeuEnery used the common “10th inch” spacing connector plugs. These plugs are the same as used by Hyperion and others. We can supply a adapter plug for use with the ThunderPower balancer. This plug supports up to 7S battery packs. The adapter is available for 8.95 from our web store or Diversity Models
From Neu's site

mmdooley 11.07.2007 09:21 PM

Wher did you get the quote from Finnster??

rchippie 11.07.2007 10:33 PM

I would be interested in these battery's because, they have external plug wires. that way i could use deans plugs, instead of the internal bullet connectors.

rschoi_75 11.08.2007 12:46 AM

plus you can drop them into any molded chassis. Not like any of you avid custom builders care... hehe. But its good for me though, since I still run 1/10th scale buggies and on-road.

Most lipos over 4000mah are 160mm+ in length which makes them a no go for most molded chassis'. This one will drop right in, just like a standard 6-cell nimh.

Still waiting on my batts. One week down, one more to go. can't wait to get them.

mmdooley 11.08.2007 12:58 AM

This is my first try at using Li-Po's. I am going to bug these nice folks here on the forums So I won't mess everything up and destroy $190 batteries. I almost destroyed my Quark 125B. But I had an  with me that day.

dadgummit 11.09.2007 03:08 PM

I ordered 2 of these yesterday and got a notification in my e-mail today that they are shipping out. I hope to see them next week.

gixxer 11.09.2007 04:37 PM

I also ordered 2 last night. now I should be set for 10th scale truck, just need to get a saddle pack for a b44.

rschoi_75 11.13.2007 09:27 PM

2 Attachment(s)
:yipi: Got mine in today! :yipi:

sadly my hyperion tabs don't fit like the guy from diveristy told me... they look like TP tabs to me. can any of you guys confirm this?

I just went ahead and bought a tp and align adapter set to cover all the bases. I figure, I'll be using lipos for a long time to come. I might as well have all the major adapters give me options.

mwry13 11.13.2007 10:06 PM

As far as tabs go, for balancing i just use the astroflight blinky to balence my packs... its a tight fit but works just fine.

i must say im overly impressed by my batteries because they are just so great. i ran a 25 min main this saturday at revelation in Socal and they didnt get past 100 Degrees (cant say the same for my motor and speed control ^_^ 155 degrees on both) but it didnt thermal or show any signs of slowing down so i just kept on driving. I almost ejected the lipos though when i cased a landing, the lipos shot forward out of the heatshrink... im so glad they didnt puncture... so close call O_o

rschoi_75 11.14.2007 05:16 PM

Thanks mwry13. If the adapters I bought don't work, I'll look into buying one of those... but I doubt I will need too.

I have been able to run these a little... about 5 minutes or so. I didn't want a full run until I have the proper charging harness. I have to say, its a noticable improvement from my old MA packs. I am very impressed.

dadgummit 11.14.2007 06:32 PM

WHAT THE.........
I just received 2 of the hard-cased 5000 mah neuenergy batteries and they are labeled as 20C cont and 40c burst.... Is that the same as the ones you received?

dadgummit 11.14.2007 06:45 PM

Ok this is impressive. This is the first time I e-mailed a company and received a reply from a real person in 2 minutes flat. Neu says:
"Jonathan,

There must have been a mistake in the shipping department. They are mislabled. Sorry about that."

I feel much better now!!

aqwut 11.14.2007 08:45 PM

I though hyperion or allerc had the universal balancer taps... they have all different kinds on one circuit board

One says 20/40C and the other three have 25/50C.... I guess it was a mistake.

Aqwut,
I checked out those adapter boards. I've got the TP and Align ones on the way (ordered similar ones from Maxamps two days ago), and already have the Hyp/polyQ adapters in hand. I'll know what works for sure by this weekend... I hope...

aqwut 11.14.2007 11:12 PM

Sweet! I have a few coming myself... got mine from allerc though...
Neus graph looks pretty good to me.. how many of you guys have tried this battery?..
RC_choi... those neu batteries looks very square, do they have somekind of plastic protective coating..?

rschoi_75 11.15.2007 12:02 AM

yeah, these are the new 2s 5000mah car packs. They come with a hard plastic case. They are perfect for me since I have 5 different r/c's that can accept this battery. My E-revo, crt.5, my TC's and 1/10th buggies.

I'm tempted to get a few more... you really can't beat this deal. Mike definitely should start carrying these in the store.

gixxer 11.24.2007 08:35 PM

just received my packs today, but I also dont know what balancing plug to use. it doesn't fit my adaptor for my hyperion charger. should I order the adapter for thunder power batteries? would this one work http://www.maxamps.com/HYP-MULTI-TP.htm

I just got my packs yesterday. The hyperion connector does not seem to be a match. Luckily, I ordered the TP adapter (to fit my Flightpower balancer) from Neu with the batteries.

Part number neu-tp works for me, I can balance my Neu packs on my Flightpower balancer.

Hi all, I got my batteries, Now I need to know what else I need to get (first time using Li-Po's) I have read that the "Blinky" works with the Neu batteries and the "ICE" charger?? (I have a "ICE" charger) Now I have a dumb question. Do the hard cases come off to charge the batteries?? One more question. where do I get the male connectors like the ones on the Neu's

gixxer 11.26.2007 12:10 AM

well I asked about the plug on another forum and this was the response from steve neu.

Kokam type plugs fit our batteries. We have adapters for the Bantam Chargers we sell. The pin spacing is the common 10th inch so balancers like the Astro Blinky will work without a adapter.

Steve
