Maxx cells with XL2000

I just ordered the Lehner XL2000 here to use with 22.2 volts or 20 cells.I noticed in your ad it says this motor can be used with "16+ cells",I was wondering just what is the maxximum numbers of cells that can used with this motor? Thanks

Serum 07.13.2005 05:27 PM

22 would be the maxximum, before it exceeds its max rpm. though you can push it further, it is not recommended keep in mind that the motor may 'only' take 1300 watts, = 60A on 20 cells. it will be a blast on 20 cells!!

coolhandcountry 07.13.2005 06:27 PM

I ran one on 18 cells it was fast. My truck was to heavy for the gearing and cell count. It was really suprising for the size motor it was. IF my truck had been lighter It would have been better. I would guess i was running in the upper to mid 40s.

rcjmaxx 07.13.2005 07:26 PM

My Emaxx with 20 cells and a steel rollcage and GPS is a bit under 13 pounds.I'm hopeing to get high 40s to maybe 50 mph.I know 50 is asking a lot for this heavy of a truck but I'm gonna try anyhow.

coolhandcountry 07.13.2005 07:37 PM

It is not the truck. It will be the motor. I burnt mine up trying this. I had heat sink on it to. Fried the windings in side. If you want that fast try a 7 xl or 8 xl on 20 cells. I had a 7 xl and it would run with traffic on 55mph highway. I crashed that in the 50s and it tore the motor apart. The 7 xl may be a better choice for what you trying. jMO

coolhandcountry 07.13.2005 07:39 PM

If you going to run 20 cells you may want to try the 8 xl.

Serum 07.14.2005 01:58 AM

Yes, indeed.. The 7XL is a bit on the hot side, to use with 20 cells.. I am going to build a savage with 20 cells and an 8XL

With that 2000XL, you might consider using 20 GP2200's it saves a lot of weight, making it accelerate faster and the motor will run cooler.

rcjmaxx 07.14.2005 06:44 AM

What tranny mods are you guys using for these speeds and power? I have steel idlers and lube on all the gears. What speed control will use with the 8XL and that many cells?

820maxx 07.14.2005 08:57 AM

i use a 9918 with my 8xl and im just using the supermaxx idlers but my weak spot now is the wheels just spun the hex out of my new jumbomaxx wheels this motor has tons of power my maxx weighs about 15lbs and is faster than a tmaxx with 18 cells

coolhandcountry 07.14.2005 03:32 PM

I run the steel idlers as well. I had a problem with the wheels until I stepped up to the 23 mm hubs. I have not had a problem since. I did break the pins off through the input shaft gears. Not sure what to upgrade on that. I run a schulze 18.97.

coolhandcountry 07.14.2005 03:34 PM

Hey 820 maxx what kind of run time you get out of your 8 xl. I was thinking about going up to an 8 xl. Since my 7 is in motor heaven. I weighed my truck it was 14.5 pounds ready to run.

if im stay in first close 2 18 minutes in second all the time 10-15 minutes im runing 16/51 gearing

Chase023 07.14.2005 07:30 PM

Wow.. I guess mine weighing in at 12.5 lbs ain't too bad in this company hehe.

Serum 07.15.2005 01:53 AM

A heavy truck has got one big possitive thing...

You can buy a large motor for it!

they look cool too

squeeforever 07.16.2005 06:33 PM

dang! 15lbs! my maxx only weighs in at 8 1/2lbs and it seems to heavy!

Chase023 07.16.2005 11:45 PM

8 1/2 pounds running with everything on?

Not bad at all..

Whats on it? got pics?

Serum 07.17.2005 03:36 AM

8.5, that is LIGHT.... You don't have got a reason to think it's heavy.

coolhandcountry 07.17.2005 08:43 AM

I wish i had mine to 9.5lbs. 8.5 would be better though. Not sure how you did it.

squeeforever 07.17.2005 03:15 PM

honestly, i dont know how i did it either. just image how an xl3100 on 12 cells throws it around! i dont have any pictures right now but ill try and take some later tonight. it will smoke my revo no problems and my revo runs at least 45.

Serum 07.17.2005 04:41 PM

Mine will be rather heavy as well. The step to lipoly's would lighten my truck I thought i bought llight products, but i guess it won't turn out as nice as i hoped it would..

That XL3100/12 cells is a sweet combo indeed, i only hear good stories about it. being light, nimble, fast..I think i will buy me that XL3100, or a 1940 that gives about the same kv-range.. To drive around with 12/14 cells.. (all in the name of science...)

Dafni 07.17.2005 05:01 PM

Rene, do you have something like a National Science Found supporting you? Please hook me up :L: I never managed to guide some University money into RC (not directly anyway ;) )

Profession: RC researcher!?

You're thinking of the 3310 on 12 cells for your Maxx?

Serum 07.17.2005 05:14 PM

Yeah, for my maxx! I just ordered some parts from Mike, including the single speed conversion..

Though i have got a bulletproof drivetrain (in my maxx that is..) so throwing in a heavy duty setup crossed my mind too.. Thats the beauty of science.. I think you need an eagletree data recorder as well for this experiment, can someone convince my girl?

(the funds i got is called 'rich girlfriend..' (kidding...))

Dafni 07.17.2005 05:23 PM

Data recorder...?! Yeah, I like people who take it seriuos. Understanding leads to Progress. Do you need a test driver?

Rene, how a about a Wanderer? (When the new magnets become available)

Serum 07.17.2005 05:29 PM

YEAH!! those wanderers!!!! great news isn't it? A high end, lowcost motor!! it will be a brake thru..

You mean you didn't knew of this little wonderfull device?

Dafni 07.17.2005 05:36 PM

oh gosh, Rene, I must have something like this. With real thermo-couple sensors .... no more fuzzy IR readings.
This will be something for the research lab!

I think I have seen this goodie in a mag somewhere.

MetalMan 07.17.2005 05:41 PM

You probably have! It has been out for at least a year now (I think). Great product! Seems a little expensive though...

Serum 07.17.2005 05:49 PM

It ain't cheap, but it is a normal price. They invested some time in developing that little thing, among with it's software. it is an decent price if you ask me
