Project Green Monster
Well, I think it's time for me to get my E-Revo project started. I've owned nothing but nitro vehicles until now and I like everything brushless has to offer. Here's the specs on my truck and some future plans as well.
2.5 chassis, de-anodized MX-3 system 94358 for steering FOC Tranny locked in 2nd RD Logics steering brace Spotraxx on Velos Shock socks, etc Going to run the electronic brake, removed all that stuff. Lost weight with the throttle servo and mount as well as the stock receiver/battery box. I'll be trying to get the truck as light as possible with even more weight reduction. Carbon fiber chassis from Vantage, JD Carbon hinge pins, turnbuckles, and pushrods, carbon rear support plate, and some carbon plates to finish up the battery mount. Here's the parts I have left to order: Feigao 9XL with XL heatsink RCM Motor mount 15T pinion (36 spur) Mamba Max BEC 4S1P LiPo Tekno Rx box new lid (maybe 07 silverado) battery tray I'm looking at the Twin Force tray from Mike. I plan on adding some carbon fiber plate on the outside and the ends to make it reinforced. Not only strong but also lightweight. Oh, and the reason it's called Green Monster is because it's going to have a nice little green theme. A lot of blacked out parts too, but green for sure. I'll have to remove the anodizing from the Feigao but it shouldn't be a problem. Here's some pics to keep you guys satisfied until the real hardware comes in! :yipi: Being torn down from nitro form http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...o/HPIM1100.jpg stripped http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...o/HPIM1107.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...o/HPIM1108.jpg locked tranny mod (notice the screen, haha) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...o/HPIM1106.jpg All nice and clean http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...o/HPIM1125.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...o/HPIM1126.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...o/HPIM1127.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...o/HPIM1128.jpg And look what else I got....and a LBA10 too http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...o/HPIM1129.jpg |
Was your misses's car putting you to shame?
|
your probably going to want to get some extended arms. especialy since your running lipo.
How do you get your arms so clean(mine hold dirt like velcro) |
I use Simple Green. Works great and breaks up the dirt like a charm.
I'm still not sure on a 3.3 or a 2.5 chassis. I like the extended wheelbase but with the rear arms I'm thinking it would be better. Less weight, less money, and I can keep my old bodies. Oh, and yes, my girlfriend's PinkVo is putting my nitro out of business! |
looking good!
you and your girl gonna go to the track together? |

|
Yep, we'll go to the track and bash together too. Anyone think 17/36 isn't the right gearing?
|
IDk about 17/36 thats pretty tall especially since your locked in 2nd. I wouldnt go any higher than 16/38or 36 depending on weight with it locked into second and a 9xl
|
Matthew_Armeni uses 18/36, so I think I'll be okay. I used it in the Speed Calc and it turned out ~45 MPH on 4S.
|
9XL, heat sink clamp, BEC, and Mamba Max are on their way! :yipi:
|

you might have some heating issues. good luck with everything! |

Oh and the Revo looks good. Let's see some new parts! |
Nice looking Revo. I like the silver chassis. I also run 18/36 with the tranny locked into 2nd gear on a MM, 9xl, and UBEC on 4s lipo. For bashing heat isn't too bad... but I also ran a fan on the ESC.
|
Thanks What'sNitro. I love New Balance!
I plan to run a fan on the ESC and cut some cooling holes too. I don't think it will be a problem. |

Should be a cool revo! I like the silver chassism should be cool with some green:party: |
You guys are all gay, like my phone is totally the best!! (said in 14 year old girl's voice)
Bought time I said something, looks like the thread is going south and I had nothing to do with...so far! Where is Clodmaxx, I need some help here! |
It's debatable which one is better. I think the Voyager is better since it's so versatile and I like the GPS feature. I don't think iPhone has that, but that's another topic for another forum ;)
Yep, the green, silver, and black should really make it look sweet! I can't wait to get these parts rolling in! |
sorry to get off subject! seems as it happens alot when im around:whistle:
when should this beast be up and running? |

|
You should ano the chassis green! That would be sweet!
|
Would like to but it would just get torn up. Carbon fiber hides scratches better. The wheels will be painted the same as PinkVo but green. Then the lid will have some nice touches to it (poser lid only). I want some Badlands for the new kicks though, need to pick some up and some good foams, but those will have to wait.
Estimated time of completion: Before 25 December. Looking to order a bunch of parts as soon as my TZ-TX sells. Here's what I have left to go until it's running. After that, I'll go for the upgrades: TrueRC LiPo Power Supply (ordered today from Tmaxxracer, thanks!) RCM Revo motor mount Battery tray Mod1 pinion Tekno Rx box Luckily, that's about $200 worth of stuff. I'm taking leave on the 18th through the 3rd, and GreenVo (AKA Green Monster) is coming home with me to rip up my home track. :yipi: So if it's not all ordered this week, it will be there when I get home. |
Got my 9XL, Mamba, RCM heatsink, BEC, and a burnt up 9920. I'm gonna try to fix the 9920 and possibly use it as a spare, if I can even get it to work.
I just ordered my Revo mount, Twin Force battery box, 17T Mod1 pinion, and the Tekno Rx box from Mike. Hope it gets here by mid next week. All I need now is my power supply (on the way) and my LiPo. After all this, I'll be able to run it. Then it gets the goodies after the holidays. Carbon fiber, graphite, green goodies, and a new lid. |
I hope you can get that 9920 to work for you.
Im also using the MM becuase my/your 9920 smoked. |
Yeah I'd like to, it looks like I have to bypass one of the small resistors (I think) and link it to the Rx wire. I'll try to do a writeup on it. Lately the 9920s are going for really expensive or really cheap. I saw a used one the other day for $65.
|
Update: Got all the stuff in, waiting for the Lipo and power supply. They should be here tomorrow. I also have a MGT on the way :yipi: but that's staying nitro.
Pictures speak for themselves, but I'd like to say that the 9XL/RCM combo is one heaping pile of sexy! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...o/HPIM1142.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...o/HPIM1143.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...o/HPIM1144.jpg How everything will fit: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...o/HPIM1146.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...o/HPIM1148.jpg |
Mmmm a sweet pile of brushless goodnes!!!
regards David ? ICUBoy |
truck looks great! when are you planning on having it run?
|
Thanks guys!
Hopefully this weekend if I get time to mount everything. All I need now is time :yipi: |
Just a thought - Take the label of the motor before you put the HS to get better thermal conductivity...
I was debating about stripping my chassis - looks good |
Thanks I'll do that arct1k. I plan on taking the ano off too with some fine grit sandpaper.
|
LiPo still isn't here, I think the mail system is slacking. I also forgot to order my 4s LBA10 cable so I can't charge it until it gets here. I'll have to get it sent home and it will be there by the time I get there. I can't wait to get this thing running :bad:
|
I got the truck strung together for a beta test run. It runs good for about 20ft then it hits the binders automatically. I think it's the radio, but I'm not sure yet. I don't have everything in their exact location yet, everything is just laying on the chassis. What do you guys think?
|
Sounds like the radio, but you can always try moving the rx around on the chassis, to double check.
|
That's what I'm thinking. I believe the steering still works even when the throttle goes out. Could it be a bad connection?
|
Figured out the charger and balancer. The LBA10 is cool, it's a balancer, discharger, and even standalone!
Ran 1 pack through the truck, still have some left in the LiPo when I charged it. I ran it for about 3 mins on the 2nd pack before I stripped my 4th spur. :( I ordered a 34T Hot Racing spur which should be here today. I'm still having those glitching problems. We'll see what I can do, I just put in new transmitter batteries and I'm gonna check the crystals and connections to see if anything is wrong or coming off. Anyone have any suggestions? The BEC and Rx are in the Tekno box, sealed off from the mamba. I also used heat shrink everywhere, looks a lot better, especially on the 5.5 plugs. Oh, and I mounted everything! :D I made a 1/4" sheet of lexan for the bottom of the battery tray and mounted it with 3mm and 4mm screws. I also made a 1/8" plate for the Mamba Max out of auminum and mounted that with 4mm screws. I soldered out the switch on the Mamba and heatshrinked that, then extended the BEC wiring so it could reach into the box easily. After that was all done, I made myself the brace for the RCM heat sink. It didn't come with one on the back, so I had to fab one. Came out nice, just needs to be trimmed on the sides. Lastly, I took a 12V fan from an old Pentium processor and cut it to length, then soldered it on. Still gotta mount it, probably gonna use silicone or something similar. Now all I need is some sticky velcro and foam for the Mamba and some velcro straps for the battery and I'll be set. I'm thinking some Tekno or GorillaMax straps. Then I can focus on making this bad boy GREEN! Pics soon to come! |
so did you ever put any shocks on it lol. all your pics have no shocks on the revo
|
Yeah, just haven't had time to post the pics. I'll try to get them up today :)
