help w/ a scammer

hey recently i sold something to a guy in canada and when i shipped it out (over a week ago) i didnt get a tracking number or anything since it was first class and i didnt keep the receipt (stupid of me:no:) and now the guy is complainigng to paypal about not getting the item.

i cannot provide a tracking number and i have no proof of it being shipped. im going to the post office to ask if they keep records but if not what do i do?

thanks

BrianG 12.19.2007 04:08 PM

Aside from asking the PO if they keep records, there's not a whole heck of a lot you can do. The only thing I would suggest would be to ask him to wait one more week in case there are shipping delays due to the holidays. Good luck.

t-maxxracer32 12.19.2007 04:26 PM

ill talk to the guy. he was an Ahole from the beginning though so im sure hes doing it on purpose.

MTBikerTim 12.19.2007 04:42 PM

Good luck dude. This sort of thing sucks. We have been having issues with some really slow postage at the moment. Hopefully it's just that.

suicideneil 12.19.2007 04:56 PM

Yeah, slow postage and it is an international package as such, so it could be held up in customs.

aqwut 12.19.2007 05:52 PM

Customs is checking the crap out of everything... all of my packages are being opened by customs... so I ship it to my girlfriends name... and it comes faster... my name's not the traditional canadian name.... kinda stoopid.. but oh well.... always get a tracking man.... pay that extra dollar.... I always do... where's this guy Canada?..

Hehehe, send Aqwut around to his house one evening to spy on him....

Arct1k 12.19.2007 06:51 PM

Err well not much you can do - If you REALLY think he did get it you can technically send an empty box with tracking... Provided you do that Paypal technically will rule in your favour.

Not really very cool though.... Lesson - Always tracking even for a $5 item!

miniGranis 12.19.2007 07:03 PM

Sorry to hear that, FWIW I am still waiting for my lipo so perhaps its just a general postage delay.

t-maxxracer32 12.19.2007 08:18 PM

oo well maybe it is just slow freakin postage

and i dont think you can get a tracking number on first class mail

or so the post office guy said.... idk

Robert 12.19.2007 08:36 PM

Ship another box to the address and get the receipt and send it to paypal.

t-maxxracer32 12.19.2007 08:42 PM

i could do thati guess... problem is what happens if he gets the box? then i wasted money on the fake package and idk

aqwut 12.19.2007 10:14 PM

it's gonna take more than a week to ship to canada from the US.. I get packages faster from hong kong than from Detroit.. which is only 40 minutes away... it's funny sometimes..

cart213 12.19.2007 10:30 PM

FWIW, I did get the receiver you shipped to me recently. I'll vouch for your credibility, not that it will help any! lol!

Always get a tracking number when shipping a sold item. Covers your butt...lesson learned eh?

(pun intended....sorta) :)

It is a paypal rule that all items purchased through paypal are to be sent with a confirmation number. That number has to be able to be traced on usps.com so paypal can verify it. This is truth for all United States transactions. I kinda make it a rule to sell only in the U.S. but anyways, The thing is, if he/she files a claim on paypal and you decide to send a secondary package to him/her, they actually have the right to refuse the package to where you are required to refund the item. Also, if the buyer wanted to be a real jerk, which it has happened to me as well. The buyer can open the package and claim it is not what was described in the listing and alter it. I know it is bad news. But it is always just safer to sell in the U.S. and get the confirmation and insurance. then your protected on both ends. If you are going out of country, you can do the same thing through usps with out the confirmation and you tell your customers that they have to agree in email and over ebay messenger that you can not guarentee the package, then their is written edocument that can be varified. Ohhh and DO NOT SELL TO FRANCE OR ITALY. Youll get totally screwed over.

i have in my auctions that i dont sell to any other countries than the US but some Aholes bid anyways so i figure what the heck.. might as well just sell it.

i always charge them 4-5 times the amount of regular shipping so i make some extra moneys but anwyways

i think i learned my lesson..

:grrrrrr:Have you called paypal up yet? On their website they list a phone number. I find it easier to talk with paypal about a disput than email or let them decide the outcome. The problem with selling is that the buyer has more power. I have sent stuff with a signiture requirement were some one has to sign for the package. I had proof of the package being delivered with a signiture of the buyer and had a paypal dispute where the buyer won their money back. :grrrrrr:I had proof!!!! the buyer has the protection. I had another problem where I sold something and the buyer was not satisfied. I gave her a refund of half what she paid. She then turned around and went to paypal saying she never recieved the item. They gave her all her money back. Then she never sent the product back. I lost the item, the money, and half a refund. Just beware there is nothing you can do but call paypal and talk with a live person. I have had a couple paypal reps that understood my story and sided with me because I called. Good Luck.

I quit shipping stuff first class to Canada. It can take upto 2-3 weeks by the time it clears customs. I only send stuff Priority International now. It can still take about 2 weeks though.

Did you fill out a customs form for the shipment? If so, your "tracking number"/customs number will be on it.

On the other side as a buyer I hot a heatsink from united hobbies that was completly not what was on theie site - Is was painted black not purple anodized.

Paypal said that it was not their issue as they didn't cover materially different items.

t-maxxracer32 12.24.2007 03:47 PM

AHA!!!

i found the reciept!! usually when i ship something out i put the receipt either in my truck center console or in my pocket. this time i put it in the ash tray for some reason!! i was cleaning my truck and found it today!!! WOOHOO!

the guy is not a scammer... the package is in transit... i shipped it exactly 2 weeks ago... and its still not there....

just another reason to move to the US!

suicideneil 12.24.2007 04:08 PM

Thats good to here. It really is just the time of year + Canadian customs slowing everything down.
