Trinity NOW BL 1/18 Truggy????

I was looking for a new toy and really wanted a something 1/18 size and BL. It was either the quake, Xray M18T, or Trinity NOW. Well I bought the NOW since it's already BL, metal gears, it looks built to take the punishmentand it's 1/16 so it's just a little bigger. I know the quake is great but it's getting old and requires a lot of upgrades for BL power. It aso comes with a Mamba25, lipo charger and FM radio for $200. Not a bad deal.

The only problem I noticed is I can't find that much info on the truck. Is it that new? Are there any reviews or does anyone have one here?

LMK, any info is helpful guys.
Thanks

Its very new. Its only been out for a few weeks now. Its based off the NEXT chassis, so you can get feedback from anyone who owns the nitro. A few people on rc-universe have them and so far its a winner. I do know of one hobby shop owner who toasted the diffs already by trying to put a 400 size (28mm can) hacker in there. I guess the diffs are not made from hardened steel.

IBJAMMIN 12.21.2007 03:32 PM

I saw those at Towwer and thought finally a kit that comes with a brushless motor and lipo pack but there is little know about them I still have not seen a pic with the body off?

When you get a chance post some pics so we can see what it looks like? :)

I checked the tracking # and it says it's out for delivery today. I ordered it yesterday morning from Tower and it's usually two days, but the next day, WOW, cool.:intello: I'll post what ever pics you want. The only thing I plan on changing so far is the tamiya connectors.

I was going to order from Amain hobbies but I had the tower coupon and free shipping.

i like the layout as well - def. let us know what you think bluonyx - i'm very interested in this little bugger!

I would like to see a better pic of the motor mount and bulkheads if you get a chance?

Yeah, with a little redrill, it could use bigger packs

bluonyx 12.21.2007 05:33 PM

I'm hoping I can fit a 4000mah lipo in there. I have three of them from my crawlers that I don't use anymore.

IBJAMMIN 12.21.2007 06:34 PM

Very interesting it looks like it has a slipper clutch it should be a sturdy platform for bashing 3s lipo ballance charger Mamba esc and a FM radio For the money it's a great deal at 210 bucks.:great:

bluonyx 12.21.2007 10:11 PM

i got some pics for ya, so be warned about your connection. IBJAMMIN, I hope these pics are good enough, if not LMK. That goes for anyone. I can take more. It looks pretty beefy so I think it could take a good beating. I already took the radio out cause I have an extra Spektrum RX. So that's going in and I don't like the small servo and saver, so I'm just going to put in an extra Z590M I have also and get rid of the saver. So NO steering problems there, probably a little overkill.

I was also bummed at the size of the 4000 lipo but who said it has to lay down. So I have some extra delrin from my rock crawlers and I'll make a holder so the lipo can stand up, slot it and install some velcro straps. I should get at least an hours worth of runtime!
I also have a 540 motor mount from a Quake and an extra 4600 motor, what do ya think?

Tiny mini servo, bahh! It must go!

Nice looking mini bluonyx. Let us know how hard you bash it and if the diffs can keep up!

bluonyx 12.22.2007 12:16 AM

In case anyones wondering, I Plastidip my lipos. Hasn't failed me yet!

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t...x/CIMG1694.jpg

lincpimp 12.22.2007 12:20 AM

Interesting, have you ever had to take it off? Also do they stay cool enough with that coating? It is not much different than shrink I guess?!

bluonyx 12.22.2007 12:33 AM

The first time I did it I only dipped it half way and screwed it up. When I dipped it the whole way again, one side was thicker than the other, so I had to take it off. It just peels off once ya get it started. Now I know dip it all at once.

Temps are the same. Around the 80-85 degree range when bashing hard.

lincpimp 12.22.2007 12:35 AM

Sweet, I will have to try this, I hate shrink, it is a PITA and gets expensive. I resorted to masking tape as it is cheap and comes off easily. Plus I can layer it for addl proptection!

bluonyx 12.23.2007 01:12 AM

Ran the 3S in the street and it's insanely fast to much for me. So I brought it into the garage and made my holder for the 4000 2S. 2S is plenty of power and the holder with straps works.

I'll give it a good run tomorrow morning in the dirt.

lincpimp 12.23.2007 02:05 AM

Nice work on the battery holder. I will wait for you to get some time on it and let us know how the diffs, etc. hold up! Bash it hard, as i would like to get one, just don't want a repeat of the crap MLST!

rootar 12.24.2007 02:04 AM

I have been keeping my eye on these, could you possibly give me the dimensions on the little truck i want to compare it in size to my Mlst2 and my LS10. LIke the wheelbase, width, length, and size of the tires and wheels it uses. Also are the front and rear diffs sealed? like the crt.5 diffs that can hold oil or not? I would LOVE to replace my Mlst2 but it has to be with another "mini" since i already have a mini track for it.

rootar 12.24.2007 02:08 AM

Nevermind about the dimension i found them.....i guess i wasnt looking at the right site.

from what i get its the same overall length at 10.5 inches, has a 1/2 inch longer wheelbase over the mlst at 7.75 inches and is only a 1/4 inch wider. i read it take 2 inch rims and tires (the same size as a mlst) so does anyone know if the mlst wheels will work, i dont remember if you measure the hex from flat to flat or corner to corner? I might be ordering me one of these SOON and the mlst2 might be going on ebay....

bluonyx 12.24.2007 02:09 AM

lincpimp, I bashed it pretty hard this morning didn't break anything but bent the front shock tower. But this was only because I decided to play chicken with a all aluminum Emaxx. Cost me a shock tower but I managed to make the Emaxx crash and turn turtle.:yipi: The only other problem I had was the switched turned off and came loose after a 7ft jump. It was just stickied to the chassis so I just wrapped it around the servo wire for now. Problem solved.

I ran it for a good 40 minutes and only used about 2000mah on the 4000 lipo. The mamba25 ran cool but the motor ran kind of hot. I bought one of these off Ebay tonight. Hopefully it's better than the what I've got now.

Not sure if the motor will be any better. Does the stock motor have a 2mm or 2.3mm shaft? It is a 280 size, and I have run a 280 l can feigao in my mini quake. The motor you picked out is for a mini t or rc18t. May be too high kv for decent power or temps. You will have to re-gear. Give it a try, but I am sure that you will need a longer can motor, the increased torque will do wonders for the low end on the truck.

bluonyx 12.24.2007 02:28 AM

I went to my LHS today to look for a new body preferably a Mini LST one because I hate the NOW one. But of course they don't have one. I just pick one up on Ebay.

I have a question. Are most of the mini's rims and tires compatible? I wanted to try M-LST rims on the NOW.

bluonyx 12.24.2007 02:36 AM

The stock motor is 280 and has a 2mm shaft. Ya, I'll probably have to regear and I have two motor adapters I bought for the Quake. One is a 380 adapter and a 540 adapter, I figured I could try to use those to mount the new motor if the mount now doesn't work.

I just have to figure out what pitch is the spur gear. Is there a way to tell?

lincpimp 12.24.2007 02:37 AM

What kind of interface does the Now use? A hex or pin? The mlst and mini inferno and vendetta all use a 10mm hex, IIRC (might be 8mm?) The rc18t, mini t and others use a pin drive. The mini quake uses a very strange way to mount, unlike any other.

rootar 12.24.2007 02:43 AM

tower says it uses a 8.45mm hex drive at the wheel (.33") i was wondering which dimension i should measure across my mlst wheel hexs to see if they would work... is it flat to flat or corner to opposite corner?????

rootar 12.24.2007 02:57 AM

btw bluonyx have you thought about maybe using one of these ( http://www.maxamps.com/proddetail.ph...74-Pack&cat=12 ) rather than that HUGE 4000 battery, you said in 40 minutes it only used 2000mah and that max amps 2100 is smaller and lighter than the stock 3 cell and is prolly alot lighter than that 4000. Plus there not too expensive at only 40 bucks.

crazyjr 12.24.2007 03:24 AM

I am liking what i'm reading, i heard a lot of bad things about the Nitro based cars on this design (internet rc vulcan and next and another, i think VTX thing not sure of manufacturer) but the electric offerings seem to be nice. Get an 1107 2y (3400kv)/quark 33 and a 3s and see how it runs

rootar 12.27.2007 03:38 AM

any updates or videos of it, im wanting to get another mini and im just gonna keep my mlst2 so ill have two trucks to run on my track (when the gf comes over she always hogs my mlst2).

so if this thing with a little bit of rebuilding and checking, and from what i understand a different spur gear , and then a 2s lipo would be a solid truck i will get it, if not i might go ahead and get a vendetta ST.

bluonyx 12.28.2007 01:30 AM

Nothing new lately. I did notice that the chassis looked bent in the rear when I took the motor out but I can't tell if it was like that, or if the crash was really that hard. It was probably that hard. Anyways I ordered a new one just in case it's cheap enough, and I also got my new motor the day after Xmas. I haven't really been in the garage that much becuase I came down with the sinus head cold thing that's going around. But I'll LYK.

rootar 12.28.2007 01:49 AM

so with how much you have used it do you think it would hold up to 2s use around a 18th scale track? Last thing i need is another problem child of a mini truck.

bluonyx 12.28.2007 02:57 AM

It should have no problems holding up to 2S use around a 18th scale track. Even with the bent shock tower chicken crash I didn't even notice it till after all the bashing. It still drove a straight line.

It does come with a 3S and the factory had the punch control set at 0%. I set it for a 2S and 50% punch and it was still squirly for me! I did everything I do with my LST and Maxx and it held up fine. Tough little truck.

jhautz 12.28.2007 03:27 PM

anyone know what KV the stock motor is?

bluonyx 12.28.2007 04:24 PM

I don't know but I'll check the can when I get home to see if it says anything. It definitely looks a lot smaller than the motor in this pic though. Even the motor mount, lipo and antenna mount position is different. This pic must be the prototype. The ebay motor I got mounts perfectly though, thank goodness.

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t...tri90015_4.jpg

rootar 12.28.2007 06:12 PM

i just noticed your pics and those pics were different, your productin setup looks better imo. I guess i can go ahead and order one, it can be my birthday present to myself and ill have my gf get me that 2100 2s from maxamps for my birthday.

Do i need a different castle link or will the one from my mamba max work? Besure and post a pic of how good the mlst body fits.... i have 3 of them laying around to try but im sure youll get your body before i get the truck.

rschoi_75 12.28.2007 06:16 PM

The factory motor is 4400kv.
