HV thermaling!!!

Ok i have my HV
I have 12pinion 70 spur setup as Novak suggested on theri web
but after like a 15min run it thermals
is it the hot weather here at California????
cuz i usually get 35min out of my gp3300 7cells

J Cates 07.21.2005 06:31 PM

How hot is it?

coolhandcountry 07.21.2005 07:58 PM

Is the truck running like it ussaully does? My brothers started thremoing. His brakes quit working right to. Something messed up in the system.

J Cates 07.21.2005 08:58 PM

Sounds like the best thing for you to do, is send it to Novak.

coolhandcountry 07.21.2005 09:06 PM

My bro got smart and bought an 8l feigao from mike. Went to the bk controller. Had alot more power.

Shadow350Z 07.21.2005 11:18 PM

it was like 110 outside when i was running it

Serum 07.22.2005 02:29 AM

you do have got the fan mounted on the esc?

Shadow350Z 07.22.2005 02:47 AM

yup fan on ESC

Serum 07.22.2005 02:53 AM

I personally would contact Novak with this issue. you have got the pinion/spur meshed right?

Shadow350Z 07.22.2005 03:10 AM

yeah
but i think its jus the weather here in CA
12pinion and 70spur jus as Novak suggested
when i first got the HV and ran it it wasnt hot
it was like in the 85-90s and it ran 35min or even more with the gp3300 7cells
now its freakin HOT!!!
triple digits
100-110 degrees

Serum 07.22.2005 03:14 AM

110 is absurd hot.. That is the main reason for your HV to thermal.. (i would thermal if i had to run around at 30 mph with those temps..) When you buy brushless, you should be living on the northpole.. (should be a disclaimer.. ;) )

Shadow350Z 07.22.2005 03:30 AM

Hahaha
Imagine playing tennis and basketball and running in that heat!!
I play tennis and basketball and run everyday
especially in the summer
i should get a 72spur to use espcially jus for the summer
think that stop the thermaling?

Serum 07.22.2005 03:45 AM

It is likely, though it might even get hotter as well.. (weird but true) try it, and you'll know.

hv-maxx-kid 07.22.2005 05:21 AM

I use stock gearing in the uk, on 12 cells without thermalling, must be just the climet, also have u cut out holes in the windscream, i found this helped with the motor temp.

Shadow350Z 07.22.2005 01:07 PM

windscream???

Batfish 07.22.2005 02:53 PM

I'll go out on a limb and assume he meant 'windshield', which would mean cutting a hole in the windshield of the body for more air flow.

Shadow350Z 07.22.2005 03:17 PM

yeah i guess thats it ill cut my windshield l8r 2day to see

Serum 07.22.2005 04:03 PM

who needs a windshield anyway...

Shadow350Z 07.22.2005 05:50 PM

lol when i get my Crowd Pleazer 2.0 for my Maxx im nto gon cut the windshield
and its gonna have light buckets and lights!

J Cates 07.22.2005 08:31 PM

What in the *&%#@ is a WINDSCREAM?

hv-maxx-kid 07.23.2005 02:42 AM

Must be a English terms, but yes i am referring to the 'wind shield'..

Shadow350Z 07.23.2005 03:40 AM

i put a hole in the windshield and ran it and it didnt thermal
but i twisted my rear shafts so i have to get CVD set soon

Serum 07.23.2005 03:46 AM

A little air works miracles every time..

tomato 07.23.2005 07:30 AM

I've been able to go with a 14 tooth pinion by using a body with out the window insert.

drumgod828 07.23.2005 12:51 PM

To help keep things cool; sometimes I use a can of compressed air to rapidly cool things down. If you turn the can upside down and the spray. The liquid gas rapidly cools that area and then evaporates. So you don't have to worry about the electronics.

Sneeck 07.23.2005 03:34 PM

Rapidly cool a hot motor for example down is a bad thing and can cause damage. If you want to cool it but still be safe, use a fan.

drumgod828 07.23.2005 04:23 PM

Sorry I should have been more clear. I don't take a motor so hot you could fry an egg on it and make it as cold as ice. Instead I constantly moniter it and spray a little here and there. I only do it on the outside. When you allow small delicate parts to go from extremes in hot and cold, things can break.

Doing this is a lot like having a heat sink.

Serum 07.23.2005 05:02 PM

you must know that something that might feel hot and burning on your hands is only 117 degree fahrenheit. this is a 'no sweat' temp for electronics.

i personally would not use something to cool electronics of fast. This might cause a loose contact on the print where the transistors/fetts are soldered on..
