Hello,

I am new and have an supermaxx e-maxx with 8 spyder diffs and the bulkless conversion and the supermaxx chassis and cvd's, everything! It is very strong and I am running the stock titans and I want something faster. What kind of brushless motor and esc would you recommend me for running on 12 gp 3300 cells and medium runtime and high speed?

please help me.

First off - Welcome to the site!!!! - First off you probably want to discuss the setup with RC-Monster Mike - but i would probably suggest the warrior 9918 with probably an 8L motor. That will get you some serious speed and torque - Like i said you definately want to get RCMMs input on this before ordering.. He knows a lot more of the technical stuff than i do - Are you always planning on running 6 cell packs or possibly running more cells in the future - that is another question you probably want to address so to make sure of proper motor/controller combo... I saw that esc and thought it was good and I think I will maybe running it on 14 or 16 cells in the future. You suggest to take one of those fegaio motors but is the lehner better and stroonger or not?

I had an hacker C-50 and it was very expensive, do the motors on this site have the same or more power?

It's not a good question but will my topspeed hit the 45 mph?

it's about 8 pounds.

A good tip is to take light wheels and tires with good traction for your surface because I have rpm rims with the proline bow tie tires and it's much faster than with the bigjoes or the stock ones, less rotating mass.

When i first started ( before learing a thing or two from Mike ) i started off with the hacker - ( now a paperweight lol ) The hacker was a good motor however the can of the motor is huge - and that limits the amount of pinion gear combinations as the motor hits the transmission. I have been running the faigo motor (8L & 9L) for quite a while now and am very pleased with the torque and power they provide. If you are planning to upgrad cell counts in the future you will probably go with a milder motor - prob a 9L ( you will more than make up the speed diff with the increase in voltage and you will have more torque as well ) also running a milder motor with more cells will also keep your motor temps down as well. But dont forget - discuss this with RC-Monster Mike before making your final decission.. Hope this was a little helpful to ya...

If you are trying to hit 45 with your maxx it can be done - but sustained speeds in that area will really be hammering the motor and controller - plus you wont be able to run that for long - your maxx will be 1/4 mile away in no time - LOL. Plus 45 in a maxx is WAY fast - and hard to controll as well - 35 on our track where we race is FLYING!!

I undertsand the hacker thing but by these motors you don't have to m ake adjustments everytime?

I don't want to change pinions everytime I am driving my truck. So if I am running the 8L, I can use always the same pinion?

Can i buy pinions on this website?

What's the fastest motor for my e-maxx on 12 cells?

I have the supermaxx electric chassis and I think it's very expensive but real strong, is the gorillamaxx chassis better?

I have the racerX suspension and my friend has the gorillamaxx suspension but we both think the racerX is better in handling. What do you think?

I have a bulletproof drivetrain and the diffs are also real strong!

Is there a way to run 2 brushless motors on 1-2 escs with 12 cells?

You dont have to make adjustment to the motors and change pinions all the time - when we race we tune the gearing on our trucks for the environment we are racing in. You can use the same pinion in the 8L im pretty sure but when you start using more cells you are going to be pushing that motor to its limits - also the speed controller as well - more voltage + hotter motor = more amps = bigger controller. I think if you are going to be running only 12 cells than the 8L is prob the best for the job. In regards to the supermaxx chassis - i used to run one - i switched to the gmaxx chassis because i liked the lower center of gravity with the gmaxx and i liked the way the batteries are secured better. I have never ran the supermaxx suspension or the racerX suspension. I have the integy and love it. Im sure mike will be able to give you more of the pros and cons of the two you mentioned. As far as the dual BL setup - i know of only one person who tried it - Full aluminum truck - on blacktop - 1/2 throttle and immediate flip and snapped off rear shocktower - so i would say that dual is a little too much.. Going from stock titans to dual BL is like going from a Yugo to a Formula 1.. LOL. But once again contact RC Monster Mike on these ????? also...

I think I will need a good motor with an esc that can run much cells, so I can always use it.

I am also (this I think is a question for Mike) interested in one or two esc's with two brushless motors on 12 cells in total. I mean one motor on 6 cells and the otherone too. I there a esc that can handle two brushless motors or do I need two esc's. Or is this whole idea overkill?

Welcome to the forum! I see you have what sounds like a great truck that is near bulletproof! This is definately a good platform for a brushless power system. I will try to touch on all your questions in this post (not necessarily in the order they were asked:)). First, there is absolutely no need for a dual brushless system. The complications of running dual systems far outway any advantages (I can't really think of any advantages!). In answer to your questions about the dual systems - yes it can be done, but my suggestion is don't bother.

If you want to run a 12 cell set-up, the Fegao 8L or 9L or the Lehner basic xl motors are the best choices (xl 3100, 3600, 2800 all work well). The 8L and basic xl 3600 should be limited to 13 or 13 cells total, so if you are thinking you may someday want to use more cells, go with a 9L or xl3100 or xl2800. The Lehner xl motors are very similar to the Hacker c50 (xl 3100 nearly identical power delivery), but they are lighter and have many more options for gearing (as HotnCold mentioned -c50 size limits gearing). The Feigao "L" motors have a bit more torque than the Hacker c50 or Lehner basicXL motor, but have there disadvantages as well. The Lehner motors have a fixed endbell, which makes them the low maintanence, plug and play choice. The Feigao motors have a pressed in endbell, which may require some additional thought and preparation to make it as bulletproof as the Lehner motors (not hard to do, but something to think about). You should be able to select a gear ratio and leave it alone. No need to change gears unless you change your driving needs (short track vs long track, tire change, etc.). Which brings me to a question for you:
What do you want to do with your truck? Do you race? Bash? drag race on the street? 45mph is pretty easy to accomplish, but driving at that speed in an e-maxx is fun for about 8-12 seconds, then stopping comes into play, or turning. We gear for about 32-38 mph for most tracks and find that speed is never an issue, nor is torque. It all depends on what you want to do with it, how many cells you want to run and things like this.
As far as suspension goes, I have or have had just about every suspension kit ever made for the maxx trucks. I love the racer x suspension and its handling, but I love the g-maxx suspension as well. The g-maxx has a lower CG and is lighter, as well as being less expensive. The Integy suspension is the best buy for the money (racer x handling at lowest price of all aluminum premium type suspension). They all have their strengths and weaknesses. If you and your friend like the racer x the best, then clearly its features suit your driving style, so stick with it. Like I said, they all have plusses and minuses and I don't think you could go wrong with any of them.
For pinion gears: the 8L and 9L (and all Lehner)are available with a standard 1/8" shaft , so any pinion gear will work. I only recommend the 1/8 shaft for 12 cell applications or less on the "L" can motors, as the additional torque and weight of more cells puts the shaft at risk of breaking). I also have a few 5mm bore pinions (14, 16, 18 and 20 tooth) should you go with the 5mm shafted motor. For speed controllers: The 9918 will accomplish what you need for a nice price, while the upgraded micro controllers have more capability and slightly better software. Hopefully, I answered your questions or at least gave you some things to think about. If you still have questions, by all means, ask away! Welcome to the forum!!

I won't take the dual brushless set and I think I will go for an lehner motor with the most power. We don't do the offroasd thing here, sometimes on the beach but always on a flat surface. We have big streets and parking areas where we do like drag races. So I wan't a motor which will give me alot of top speed.'

please tell me what to pick?

I also saw that the lehner motor can is real small and does it really have the same power as the hacker C-50?

So what would you recommend for high end speed?


and what for much torque for acceleration and wheelies?

Don't worry about the questions, that is why I put the forum here! Ask as many as you want!
The Lehner motor has smaller outside dimensions when comparing it to the Hacker c50, but internally, they are virtually the same construction. The c50 just has a large(fat!) heatsink can, which makes it appear larger, but the actual motor part is the same size. Any of these motors can deliver top speed and wheelie popping torque with a good set of batteries.

I have 3300 GP matched ones and hacker told me these were the best to have. If I would choose a lehner, what kind of lehner woul you recommend for the highest speed.

The hacker didn't made wheelies also not a other brushless because of the bulkless conversion, long chassis and the racerX which is keeping my truck down.

How many cells are you planning to run? The c50 should have plenty of power to wheelie, but the long chassis and plush suspension will soak up a lot of the torque (that is what it is designed to do). Stiffer springs will bring back some wheelies, but shouldn't be necessary. I can lift the front of my g-maxx with no problem (lower and as long as the SM). Traction may be an issue as well.

I never had an wheelie also not a mm of the wheels getting up.

I am thinking of buying a good (have to spare some money for the project since all has gone in the supermaxx (2800 dollars, ouch!) esc with which I can run more cells in the future or other motors.

I have stiff suspension and is there another way to make wheelies?

How old are your batteries? Stiff springs help with wheelies, as well as placing the batteries to the rear of the chassis. If you put the batteries on the top of the chassis (instead of the bottom), this will make a slight difference as well. What surface do you run on? What motor and controller are you running now? The titans will have a hard time lifting the wheels on a full supermaxx for sure.

I am talking about when I had the hacker and my cells are now llike 3 months old and always put them in the back.

That's kind of strange. I always saw people make wheelies and I am always driving on flat pavement and I never had an wheelie.

Do you run the bowtie tires on pavement? Street tires probably won't give you a wheelie, but a soft rubber tire like the bowtie should give you some good traction. My trucks will not only wheelie, but wheelie violently! How many cells do you want to run and I can suggest a motor for you.

For me the best is to run 12 cells.

I want something with a (real) high topspeed and wheelies.

I would go with the xl3600 or Feigao 8L. I work some gearing suggestions up when you determine which one you would like to go with.

Cheaper. I have 4 rtr e-maxes. One has a Lehner xl3100, one has a Feigao 8L, one has a Lehner basicXL 2400 (high voltage) and one is a test dummy!

why shouldn't I take the 4600 or the 5000 from lehner?

You mean the xl4200? The xl5000 should not even be considered on 12 cells. It is too hot and will exceed its rpm limit. The xl4200 will be quite fast, but the runtime will suffer a bit. They work, for sure and I have run the xl4200 in my maxx, but they draw a lot of power (hard on the batteries and bad for runtime). If runtime is not your concern, the xl4200 is quite the powerhouse! Make sure you get the better speed controller for this one for sure!

On another thought, the biggest limiting factor for your goals is probably the cells. The batteries can only deliver so much, regardless of the motor, so they will all perform pretty similarly. The hotter motors will lower the actual voltage while you are driving to a point where it is actually delivering the same power as a slower motor with less voltage drop. If you want the most from your system, consider running 14 cells. The higher voltage will add some power. The 3600xl will handle the 14 cells and give you great performance on 12 cells. For your needs, this would be my favorite pick.

If i have the money in a few weeks I will buy the 3600 and a real good esc and what will be the topspeed of my maxx? Will it do wheelies?

The xl3600 revs at 3600 rpm/volt. The Lehner basic and basicxl motors are rated for 65000 rpms (vs 50000 for the Feigaos). The xl motors are rated for 1300 watts, but I doubt 12 cells will deliver that much power and I also doubt the maxx can put down that much power (traction limitation). It should wheelie pretty easily and top speed can reach into the 50 mph range with the right gearing. With 1/8 diffs and 22/66 gearing, the speed should top out between 40 and 50mph, depending on tire growth, voltage drop, etc..

The 3600 on 12 cells will feel like more power than the c50 maxx motor. The statement " "Our motor has 1400 watts of power" but that will be with much more cells than twelve." is true. I don't think 12 cells can deliver that power. Half or maybe 2/3 of that power is about all you will likely see on 12 cells. This is quite a bit of power, mind you.

for more power I have to run it on 14 or 16 or 18 cells.

what's the maximum for the lehner?

14 cells would be very nice for the 3600. The 3600 should stay below 15 cells to be within its rated rpm limits. I have seen Candyman's video before. He has a hell of a nice truck! I agree, also, that a dual setup offers no real advantage to a properly selected single setup. The dual motors he used are capable of about half the power of the basic XL motors (he used regular basic motors), so it would make sense that a basicxl would likely beat his truck by simply being lighter. Batteries of course make a tremendous difference in overall performance(am I repeating myself!?). I like the 3600 on 12 cells, personally (I even like the 3100 on 12 cells). I race on a track, though, which a little different than your intended purpose, so you could push it a little harder without much trouble.
