How to get Lehner rebuilt?

Hey. I was just looking at my savage getting it ready for a little make over and I pulled the motor and noticed that the bearings are feeling a little rough. Its a 1940/7. Most of the mounting holes in the front end are stripped out as well. I only have three good ones left.

Anyway I'm thinking its time to ssend this motor in to Lehner and let them do a tune up on it. Its over 3 years old and has ALOT of miles on it. I'm sure the windings and rotor are still fine, it just needs a new front cover with fresh screw holes and some new bearings.

Does anyone know where to send them in to have Lehner work on them? Who would I contact. I know Mike doesnt deal with them any more or I would have just sent it to him to send in and get it refreshed.

Any help is apreciated.

EDIT: Also any idea on what that kind of thing might cost?

If I were you, just have mike mill you a new, thicker front plate, and buy new bearings yourself and replace it. While its open you can take some compressed air and blow it out.

jhautz 01.09.2008 09:44 PM

I have Mikes front plate on it now. Thats how its holing up this long. The thing is if I take the front plate off I will probably screw up the remaining good screw holes. They are the only place to grab it to unscrew the front and those front plates are on tight!

Plus.... Where would I get the bearings?

BlackedOutREVO 01.09.2008 09:45 PM

Plus, it would probably take some time to get it there, and then have it serviced, and sent back..........

jhautz 01.09.2008 09:51 PM

Dont mind the time right now really. In reality its not getting much use in the winter. I run mostly my buggies at the indoor track in the winter. If I do want to run the truck I have a 9XL I can toss in as a temporary untill it comes back.

If I knew where to get the bearings and front plate and all I would probably take a whack at rebuilding it myself, but where would I get it. I dont thisn the bearings are your run of teh mill avid bearings or anything. Maybee some avid ceramics?

squeeforever 01.09.2008 10:20 PM

Well, BP has a point. You can have Mike machine you a new front plate all together, or e-mail Mike. In most cases, he'll be able to hook you up. Chances are he has a old Lehner laying around thats fried. The bearings you should be able to get form Avid or somewhere else, but if not, Mike should have them as well. If not, I know OffshoreElectrics.com has bearings for the Feigaos, which should work, as long as the OD is the same (should be).

Thanks for the link. I found those just a little while agow while I was digging around. Now I just need to find a new front plate.

Anyone have a toasted 19xx motor around that they would be willing to let go of cheap?

squeeforever 01.10.2008 03:56 PM

Mike will probably have one.

Sower 01.10.2008 05:11 PM

I've got a 1940 that I fried.

Sower 01.10.2008 05:14 PM

I'd be glad to help out jhautz - especially since we go a ways back  Remember the XXX-4G+? Shoot me a PM if you would like my help and I'm sure we can work something out. My 1940 is basically an expensive paper weight right now.

Serum 01.10.2008 06:26 PM

I wouldn't use bearings with a rubber seal on those high RPM's. It will melt quicker than you can burp the ABC!

Serum 01.10.2008 06:34 PM

you heard that? i got a solid A for ~10 seconds..

jhautz 01.10.2008 06:53 PM

Sower: PMd ya

Serum... Best i was ever able to do was to get to H on a really big belch and saying the letters really quickly

Sower 01.10.2008 08:07 PM

I'm having flashbacks of Will Ferrell chugging Coke on Elf. "Did you hear that?!"

Freaking hilarious.

Hickoryhead 01.10.2008 10:19 PM

Mike is your best bet. I had issues with a 1950. He was willing to build me a whole new endcap. In the end I went another route. I contact LMT about helping but I was quoted half the price of a new motor and shipping to germany then given a 9 month wait. Go with Mike.

aqwut 01.10.2008 10:26 PM

DO NOT SEND it TO LEHNER....! Still haven't recieved my 2280 back yet... haven't had any word from them either... I've had no luck from Lehner up till now..

jhautz 01.10.2008 10:29 PM

I see I can order a new front plate from Lehner for 21euro. and the bearings are 6.50euro. I might just do that. How long can it take them to ship just the parts. I can change them myself.

if you do go this route, let me know as i'd like to order them as well. i have the same motor, also well used - we could go in together on the shipping.

Serum 01.11.2008 01:50 PM

guys; if there is anything i can do to help you let me know, okay? (since i am in europe and shipping from here to the US is fair cheap.)

crazyjr 01.11.2008 02:10 PM

Whats the link for lehner? I keep forgetting to link it to favorites

Edit: here it is http://rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8625

very much appreciated, serum.

neweuser 01.11.2008 06:42 PM

Serum to save the day again! I bet Serum could get you guys well set on shipping too!

Serum 01.12.2008 04:07 AM

If you need my assistance, just shoot me a PM or an email.

jhautz 01.12.2008 04:16 AM

I just sent them an email asking what shipping would be to the US on a font plate and 2 bearings. I'll let you guys know what they say.

Clodmaxx, If you want me to add another front plate onto my order PM me and we can figure something out.

Serum, if its a ridiculous shipping charge I may take you up on your offer. I cant imagine it being that bad though, it would be a pretty small light package.

captain harlock 01.12.2008 03:45 PM

Umm....did I recommend some ceramic bearings for the motor?

I believe BocaBearing will hook you up with the exact size you need.

I know...I'm a bit biased when it comes to ceramics, but hey, they've never made me worry.

You had to wait 9 months!? :gasp:
When i send my damaged 1940 to Lehner, i got a new one for half the price of a new after 3 weeks. So i would recommend to find someone in Germany that is shipping your damaged or fried motor to Lehner and the fixed or new one back to you.
(Lehner is about 30 miles away from me  :mdr: )

jhautz 01.12.2008 08:12 PM

Is that a volunteer I hear?

We'll see what they tell me for shipping just the parts before I go that route. I think I can rebuild it myself if I can get the proper parts.

If they tell you that you have to pay more than 20$ for shipping, then PM me and i'll order the parts for you.
