erevo rEvo reVolt :) anyway.. my conversion using 3905 parts

Got some great ideas during my project from this site so I figured I would post up my revo brushless conversion to help anyone else starting out.

Thanks to everyone who helped along the way via prior posts or comments in mine as well! Much appreciated!!
Items used:
  • New Revo 3.3 Roller, stripped down the stock tranny and well all electronics and the diffs sold on ebay.
  • New Emaxx 3905 (if you couldn't tell from the title) Stripped the tranny, front drive shaft, both diff's, radio box & well that is it really.. the rest will eventually hit ebay if I like the rEvo enough (keeping the servo's for my Rusty though... hehe
  • Picked up 2 New Era battery trays
  • Picked up 8 nuts from the hardware shop, everything else was from my Rustler extra's or the emaxx or revo
  • Picked up two small velcro straps from Wallyworld
  • Hitec HS-985MG servo
  • Pro-Line Aluminum Steering Arms Blue Anodized Revo
  • Stuck in my unused Velineon ESC mounting plate
  • Used 1 old small piece of plastic under the emaxx's receiver box to mount with
  • Did quite a bit of very precise dremel work and drilling and a lot of staring while I figured out the 'next' step.

Some dremel work

PART II on next post! The pic doesn't show it but I dropped in the long shaft from my emaxx to drive the front of my erevo (so yes it is 4wd) AND YES IT WAS A PERFECT FIT, STOCK REVO REAR SHAFT WAS USED FOR THE REAR.

PART II

Made my ESC tray and mounts for the emaxx water resistant radio box

Designed a better bracket for the front of the tranny here (after the fact)

I got tired of waiting for my 7XL and MM ESC so I dropped in the dual Titan and evx-2 (I had a dud evx-2 though so it often stops for no reason.. a new one is on it's way though :))

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...h_rEvosnow.jpg

I got bored yet again, now waiting for my 5mm pinions for my 7XL and MM esc so I ripped my single VXL motor off my Rustler and installed it on my rEvoLt. Geared 68t spur and 19t pinion.. if someone wanted this setup would be better than two titans any day of the year and geared lower say 17t pinion it will still run same top speed as the stock emaxx setup but just a TON more torque as you will see in the video.

Thanks again guys hope this helps someone else out!!!! I know this is quick so if you have any questions fire away...

Sweet conversion! What did you do with the rest of the E-Maxx?

stum 01.10.2008 12:34 AM

I was going to part it out, but I just picked up another tranny, radio box and diff's off ebay for failry reasonable cost.. so I will build it back up and have two I suppose :) LOL bit again.. gotta love this hobby :)

rchotrodz 01.12.2008 01:18 AM

the only thing that I don't like about the new trans is the exposed spur gear alot can get in there and wreak havoc but that is just me...but other than that it looks great...

tashpop 01.12.2008 10:02 AM

that vid is nice. only think i think that would have made it better, is if you would have did a temp check on everything at the end. nice work.

Working on a fix for that.. I already have a few ideas and will upload the changes when I have time to implement. Very good point though, as it bothers me just as much :)

Some updates.. w/ brushless vids and pics Feigao 8XL 24/68 (also use jato spurs for higher speed when needed 54,56,58t) Mamba Max controller w/ Castles BEC on a pair of 2s2p maxamps 6000mah lipo's (4s config). Wicked FUN!

Sorry to bring back a dead thread, but I am wondering where I can get those battery trays. I just got a roller and am gonna strip my 3905 to get the tranny and copy your truck for the most part (hope you don't mind). I've been looking and I cant find them anywhere.

big greg 04.04.2008 08:22 PM

new era has those trays like 12 bucks a peice i think

But where do you get them? I may be blind, but I can't seem to find them.

Greg, you're awesome. I appreciate it!

big greg 04.05.2008 01:00 AM

no problem you just had to search battery tray

xcntrk 04.05.2008 09:04 AM

Nice!

Got a question; I run a very similar setup (motor/esc/batts) what settings are you using for punch-control and what’s your gearing?

big greg 04.05.2008 03:05 PM

well i have the same setup also, mm/7xl true rc 2s2p 8000's and i have punch control disabled, mid power start up, normal timing, and 24/56 gearing

bustitup 04.05.2008 11:33 PM

Will this electronics setup work with 2 maxamps 8000mah 3s lipos?

big greg 04.05.2008 11:55 PM

not if you run them in series, mm will not take 5s let alone 6s, if you run them in parrallel for 3s 16000 mah it will work but the 7xl doesny really do well on 3s

Not really, the 7xl will turn a bit slow on 3s, but depending on gearing it will work. 35mph may be the most before the load on the motor pulls too much thru the esc. The xl motors have power, but tall gearing will overheat the esc, and most likely the motor.

big greg 04.06.2008 01:33 AM

well thats what i meant by doesnt do well, i just meant it wotks the best on 4s, cause who only wants 35 mph?

You have a point, 35mph is a bit slow unless it is a small, tight track. Or maybe everyone is not capable of handling 40+ mph!

big greg 04.06.2008 02:04 AM

yea i guess if you have some really small straights, but its still nice to come off the track, swap some wheels/tires and bash around a bit

bustitup 04.06.2008 09:18 AM

btw stum...how do you like that integy wheelie bar set up?

big greg 04.06.2008 12:14 PM

well im speaking for him, but i remember him loving that thing, now that was when he first got it, things couldve changed

Were the stock Revo shafts too short or too long to work in the front?

suicideneil 04.07.2008 06:05 PM

Too short I believe, the stock nitro tranny is placed closer to the front of the truck, so a shorter shaft is normally used I think.

Fkyx 04.07.2008 10:05 PM

Okay. Hopefully the Revo 3.3 shafts will work with the 2.5 chassis. I ordered a set for the 3.3, but I don't want to order a set of E-Maxx shafts as well.

Thanks. :)

Sammus 05.13.2008 09:01 AM

Have you flipped/landed upside down and hurt anything yet? I'm currently thinking about this, but trying to keep the roll bar... May require an abnormal configuration of the A123 cells I'm planning on using...

Edit: Also, how is the tranny fixed there? It looks like you have big washers clamping it to the chassis, without anything actually going through the chassis. Am I seeing right? Is there any problems with it shifting or moving or anything?

fore106 05.13.2008 01:06 PM

Yep I have flipped....and landed nose first off a pretty big jump. Have not had an issue or hurt anything important.

There is no modification to mount the trans......just the 4 stock screws. No shifting problems at all. Actually when it shifts into 2nd the front wheels want to come off the ground so I lose a little steering while accelerating. I may lock it into second and see what happens.

Sammus 05.13.2008 07:42 PM

No modification? Theres pictures of the chassis dremmelled away, I thought that was to fit it in? And those big washer things? I was just curious of how its actually done.

Also, I didn't mean shifting as in gear shifting, I meant since the tranny just looks like its clamped onto the chassis, if they werent tight enough or if you hit it hard enough I imagine the who tranny could move...
