MMM When When When!!!!
Please when is it going to come out. Im ready to go brushless and cant wait any longer.
|
Another 2 months min seems to be consensus
Per the other thread on this.... 01.11.2008, 12:07 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just had to speak to CC re my cripsy MM replacement (another $50 :() - Anyway official line is late Jan delivery for MMM is officially gone and target is now Q1 (Quarter 1 / first 3 month / by end March / by Mar 31st / 31st March). Still there for summer - maybe... Rgds |
ugh... I may go with the quark 125b. Any suggestions, I cant wait that long.
|
Well then you have mod issues etc...
Personally I'd spend $115 on MM - If you toast it max it will cost you is $50 and you can always resell for $80-90 when the MMM comes out... |

I wanna run a 5s on an 8xl. A mm will not handle that. will it?

People... Stop waiting for it! It will happen someday, but who knows when. Castle is doing what they should have done all allong... just keeping their mouths shut.
I doubt anyone will hear anything that is real until they are actually released. Which will be.... who cares, I gave up on waiting for them long ago. All I can say is when it does finally get released, it better be good or I will be even more pissed it took them so long. |

LOL:lol: I hear you wildman...I did stop waiting! Just ask MGM Compro! |
Ahmen - On a different topic thought it does seem an odd business strategy though to release the sidewinder unless they intended to kill the MM in due course.
The SW ships with the same motor so why would you pay an extra $50 to get a MM? If/When the MMM comes out it will take the higher 0.125 / .1 scale end of the market hence who'll buy the MM. It is difficult to see that margins will be improved on the SW and it must have cost them a bunch on tooling / R&D. I presume they are seeing increased competition with NOVAK and Tekin and this is the response to move to a lower price point. I think would also be good to look at a rebuildable motor to get it ROAR compliant. Sorry just thinking and typing... PS I see on Traxxas forum that Tony (stampedeproject) has his SW now too |
They are just like the mgms really. Lots of different escs for different price points. I'm just worried people will blow the SW up really quickly due to their lower current handling abilities. I think the MMM is going to be priced high enough the MM will still have a big market. There have been things said about an upgraded MM even though it seems to be mostly people making things up. A 4s MM with built in UBEC would be nice especially if the current capacity was upped.
I only found out about the MMM when I started looking into doing a brushless savage and after reading a thread on the MMM I gave up instantly on waiting for it. I still want it and will most likely buy it when it comes out but I will use a MM in the mean time. |
I dont think the MM will be killed. The sidewinder is certainly going to replace a large share of the MM sales, but it won't replace the ESC. I think they will end up redesigning the MM so that it fits between the MMM and sidewinder better. Maybe something along the lines of a GM controller I hope.

Think the MMM could be closer than some expect, as the software has obveously been worked out as demonstrated by the new sidewinder, and the update that came out at the same time.
Really not much of a leap from the MM to the MMM with good software... I won't give up on waiting for the MMM, I've got two ofna 1/8th's waiting for it. If it takes alot longer I'll have time to start gathering 3S lipo's that I run in my 1/10th 4wd buggy now anyway. Then I still need motor mounts, battery trays, servo mod's, ect. |
Modified MambaMax can handle XL motor with no problems, the only benefit of MMM would be direct support in software of 6S LiPo.
All the rest would be similar to the last generation MambaMax with maybe better heatsinking (all Fets on the top with heatsink). I still not quite get it why they dropped USB?! Money saving feature...or with new firmware they run out of space and ditch USB interface. We will see, I am looking only for new neu-like motor with "mambamax" sticker :) |
They are ditching the USB interface on the MMM?
|
Yes, you will need to use the Castle-Link to program the MMM. Who knows though, maybe the MMM will come with the C-link included.

Hope not... I already have one and dont want to or need to pay for another one. If they can save some $$$ and come out with a USB free MM I'd be glad to buy it for $20 less too. |
It's kind-of a catch-22 for Castle. If they don't include the C-Link, some people will complain that they "spent all that money and can't even program it." If they include C-Link there will be a "I already paid for one of these" crowd. Can't win.

Guys I read on Rctech that it won't be out till March. I hope this isnt true. Hopefully someone from Castle will come on here and respond. Here is the Quote.....
"Our Monster Max system should be available in March[/u][/i][/b]. With these, the drive train of the vehicle becomes the weak link, not the ESC. " -- Bernie Wolfard Product Support Supervisor Castle Creations 235 S Kansas Ave Olathe, KS 66061 913-390-6939 Ext 123 |

I cant possibly see how anybody can be surprised by that. In March they will tell us June. Its been going on like that for a year now. Someday they will get here, but theres no telling when. I thought CC had finally learned to keep their mouth shut and just deliver the product. |
Maybe they have learned and it will be out in march. Who knows. They were pretty close with the sidewinder predictions.
A programming card would be nice from them. People have been harping them forever about one. |
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere (can't remember where though) that the MMM will come supplied with a Castle Link. It'd be a real backwards step if the MM was PC-programmable out of the box and the MMM isn't. It's weird that the dropped the direct USB connection though; it's not like space for the port should be a real issue for the MMM...
|
Remember the mamba max was really a platform launch to enter into rc car world for CC.
They may have put USB for. Demonstration of strenght/ engineering abilities More feature than other brand for the same price Castle link may mean nothing for the average joe, but USB connector is well know and "Cool" (even my dad know what is that :D) In some way sidewinder doesn't need it because cost and because it's meant to be plug and play MMM is a little more for a growing nich market, only electric fanatics (hu ?) know what is this thing and the cost of castle link mean nothing compared to the cost of the overall setup. P: sorry for the engrish :/ |
The USB port is a space hog. I would rather have a smaller controller with the castle link included (or not)
|
The USB port and associated interface IC can't be that big. I personally wouldn't mind a slightly larger ESC to have it. One of the reasons why I like USB is because I have about a bazillion cables at home (camera, MM, etc), so even if I lose one, I have several more.

So the Mamba Monster F*%$ing Maxx will be out in March, eh?
Oh well, I've already have countless BL controllers in my possition. If the MMM and the Tekin R1/8 will be as smooth as butter in the Big Dogs, I might get one of them. We all have been waiting for more than 2 years for these things to come out, and they're still not here. O' God..... |

I'm a delete it unless they build in a plug of some sort to keep out the water / dirt... As long as it can use the castle link I think its fine.
I'm also if they've built it without just leave it alone and release it :) I'm with Jeff - what will be will be, It will be here when it's here and not before, no matter what we all say... The progress in the hobby over the last year/two has been amazing is all i can say... What will 09 bring us? |
