What kind of shocks E maxx
I just got done snapping 2 diffrent kinds of shocks first was the factory maxx shock and then some after market thredded one. I bash hard and would like some input on a good strong shock that I can adjust the ride height and replace parts that give out..
|
Powerstrokes.
|
Or some type of 1/8 scale shocks. I plan to use 8 Ofna rear shocks (UE Supershocks) for my MGT.
|
I had powerstrokes on my maxx when I had it. They were awesome if you can find them. Highly recomended!
|
they don't work anymore squee; they are pretty worthless here, since the topicstarter has another request; 'replace parts that give out'
too bad there are NO parts available anymore for powerstrokes and they are getting rare. I have a set, i don't use them anymore; you need to invest quite some time to get a suspension setup to be perfect, once the powerstrokes are damaged, ít will cost you a headache to find replacement parts. IF you are able to find at all. They are awesome shocks, don't get me wrong, but due to the lame support/attitude of proline i don't advice them to anyone. (sent them two emails with questions about replacement parts, and they don't bother to reply) You are better off with a set of the traxxas big-bores. easier to get/find replacements for, and they are tough as nails. So I would advice you to use either traxxas big-bore shocks or ofna/UE shocks. |
I have used OE shocks, BigBores, PowerStrokes and UE SuperShocks(1/8 Onfa). The 1/8 scale UE or Onfa's shocks are by far the toughest. If you have seen my vids I drive like crap and jump 30foot levees. So far only the 1/8 shocks are holding up.
|
Did you see the new ones Mkrusedc? they use a fat 16mm piston instead of a 13. their OD is 24mm ! talk about fat shocks :)

Yeah, that's a catch.
Flextek arms would fit though... :) |
Serum, I would hardly say there worthless. Actually a used set goes for as much a I bought a new set for that came with MIP cvd's and Lunsford turnbuckles. Parts aren't that hard to find and you shouldn't really need anything for them. There pretty damn strong. I've actually been looking for a set at a decent price.

4 UE SuperShocks with the black springs in the rear and the blue springs in the front. I just ran that with a FLM extended chassis and almost could not flip it. The stability was incredible. This what it looks like but with the white springs.

I think i will go with ofna shocks but do I order the front shocks or the rear??? I ask because I have no exp with them at all.
|
I think the fronts are the right size. Somebody correct me if i am wrong.
|
Hey guys I just placed the order from Mike for some FLM Shock towers and the LST Shock Conversion. I should have it by the end of the week and will post pics when done. It looks like I'm going to have to mod the upper arms a little to make them fit.

Shocks
I know some of the guys on here are not very fond of Integy:whistle:, but I have a full set of MSR8's and they are a pretty tough set of shocks. The shaft is very beefy so they do not bend like their other shocks. I have been using them for a few months and have not had any issues with them yet... The MSR 4, 5 & 6 are pretty weak and get bent much too easily, but this new product seems to hold up pretty well. Plus they are easy to come by on most of the hobby sites. Good luck with that.
|
The integy shocks are worthless IMO. their shafts bent, they have useless reservoirs.

Im working on getting some buggy shocks for my mgt now. Im going to run rears, and so far I have 2 pair of turmoil shocks, and im working on finding another 2 sets on ebay to complete my truck.
well I have already won 2 sets of turmoil shocks I ahvent received them yet. |
like i said; you need the rear shocks.

too bad proline doesn't support them anymore! it will be a matter of time before all sources run out. Too bad you don't seem to understand.
|
Shocks come and go, especially nice ones like the Prolines. I wouldnt get so bothered about it though; if they get busted up, so be it- try something different. Afterall, they arent that expensive relatively speaking, and down the line you will probably end up getting rid anyway if you have a change of truck etc.
I like my Integypoop MRS8s; they're shiney!..... might get something without piggybacks though- lets have a look at these Ofna dealies. |
there are piggybacks for the ofna's too. i had them on a truck.
|
Im just thinking more about my shell- with the G3.3 suspension the shocks are laid right down almost, which makes the piggybacks stick up rather alot, limiting how low the shell can be positioned. Are there any good places to look for assembled ofna shocks, everything I find is for parts.
|
shocks are fun to build! just use the associated green slime on the o-rings. they seriously don't take long at all to build.

I have a set in the box(used but great shape)I just can't bring myself to sell them I loved using them but i'm worried about getting parts.
|
They are nice shocks, (and good too, i said that numerous times)
@ravin; that's exactly my point. it took proline less than 1 year to stop carrying them in their programm. I doubt if this is even legal. You can't simple stop producing something and stop supporting it. |

:gasp: I hate rebuilding shocks. So much that I have bought news ones instead:oops: |

well i now have some down time to order some shocks....i broke the lower a arm and snaped the hinge pin in the front during some on road kart wheels so now im waiting for my replacements to get here
|
I just got two turmoil shocks for my mgt, and they are about .75" longer than they need to be, so either drill new mounts like I did, or run front shock.
I could have mounted them in the stock position, but I lost all my downtravel do to the shock bodies being to long. |
