New Emaxx 3905, Holding up for everyone?

I was wondering how the new emaxx is holding up for everyone. I'm planning on getting 1 and putting a 7xl in it and running it on 2 - 7cell packs or 2 - 7.4 lipos. I had the old emaxx with only a 9L before and it broke every time i ran it.

What is everyone else running in the new emaxx(3905)?

Mine has been perfect, I ran the stock setup probably 6-8 times then stuck a MGM/1515 1Y in it on 14 cells. So far the only problem I've had was my own. I was running the truck without the body and slammed the brakes too hard. She did a forward flip and landed on the rear shock tower. The rear bulkhead snapped at the lower mount screws, a $8 set of new bulkheads later and its as good as new. Just a lesson to myself, never run it without the body. :intello:

my 3905 has seen a good amount of action. so far broke an arm, bulkhead, a screw, rear bumper, the steerign assembly amd 3 shocks. most of the damage was from one severe wreck. now teh trucl has hardcore racing titanium skidplates, traxxas aluminum bumpers, and a set of traxxas big bores are on the way. also gonna be installing an mgm compro and neu 1515/1y brushless package in the truck.

Mine has run great. I had no problems with the stock setup and I recently went with a 10XL with a mamba max esc on 14 cells with a 24/58 gearing. Wheelies non stop and tops out around 36 or 37 I'd say. Have lipos on the way and plan on running 5s2p through it. Probably going to drop down to a 22 pinion. It warms up a bit if running in the grass.

im running a mm with feigao 8xl and 4cell and its running great with no prblems so far, great wheelies and speed:yipi:

so far so good I only broke 2 shocks on a misplaced parking curb  I thought I had the corner but cliped the curb and im very lucky that it missed my van when the truck went air borne...Im running twin VXLs on 7cell eg4600 packs with 22t pinions it has loads of power and does great wheelies I almost want to put the wheelie bar in the front and do a reverse cat walk on video

compared to my old maxx its far better you dont have to spend money on upgrading to handle the power its all done and when I bash .........I bash the piss out of the truck

rhylsadar 01.29.2008 06:07 PM

hi

my experience so far from several packs with stock electronics and very moderate bashing. broke the two rear bulks at the screws that hold the shock tower. it seems a very very weak spot due to the screws there. the shock tower is a way to rigid (compared e.g. to savage towers).
one shock bend.
performance with 14 good nimh cells is ok. with 4s trakpower ok (good runtime).
not sure what BL set i am going to put in... if at all. but my plan for now is to go with a moderate powerful set because the truck is quite lightweight.

bye

I think these are the weak parts of the stock 3905 e-maxx;

steering knuckles (pillow balls will pop out sooner or later)
bulks (though they are better than the original black ones)
shocks (they will pop in a bad landing)

jzemaxx 03.21.2008 10:29 AM

I keep busting steering knuckles....like mentioned. Does somebody make an upgrade yet for that?

Buzzsaw46 04.03.2008 02:13 PM

Mine is holding up surprizingly well! No breakage till I went brushless. Broke the rear shock tower within a few runs, rear bumper went later but i think thats it so far

Brushless setup has been an Ammo 36-50-3300, 5s2p A123, MM, 14t/68t gears. Motor runs hot but powerfull. Have a 6XL and a Medusa 36-50-3300 on the way. The 36-50's are for my NMT but I figured it was worth a try on the Maxx. Other then the heat its prety good.

No one has a complaint about the drive train though, thats the important part. They really beefed it up. I havent had 1 issue with it. Although Ive broken every other stock plasitc part, but its warming up, less breakage for me.

I'm looking forward to some Chassis choices. This truck is sooo much better than the Gen1 Tmaxx, ya still some weak links but they do seem to be improving the breed. That said the stock power system was dissapointing, too me. Coming from a Fast lane Big block T it's not surprizing that I wasn't satisfied with the stock motors;)

I have a hacker c50 14l on 5s lipo thru a quark 125b. Plenty of power, currently geared (mod1) 18/46. Tranny is alot stronger and so are the diffs. Big step up from the old emaxx. I can get about 43 mph from mine, and hit a packed car at full tilt! Bent a steering tie rod slightly, thats it. Guess that I am lucky!

What was the car "packed" with?

Hey could you what's the modification to do on the new E-Maxx to fit a Neu 1515 with MOD1 spur gear?

Looneybin 04.03.2008 08:53 PM

fried 4 motors in the first week, but there on there way back to traxxas. after the 8xl/mm setup i hit a curb. a-arms, two servo gear sets. upgrade time.

Parked car, but it was packed with $hit, abandoned down the street from my shop. I may set it on fire, and roast marshmallows.

Hey James, his the new e-maxx come with a mod1 spur gear? If not, which spur could you use on it?
And when you upgrade to a biger motor, what's the modifs you have to do?

New emaxx comes with a 32p 65t spur, but it does have the revo spec slipper clutch. I use the MGT spurs on it, they are mod1 and fit with the above mentioned mods.

I have run mine hard and it seems to be holding up. I need to run it a bit more before I can really say how good it is. It is much better than the old emaxx, that is for sure! I have run the c50 14l on 5s and the truck handles it just fine, tranny is holding up and the diffs do not appear to be wearing that much. I know the old emaxx is not as strong, tranny needs the gmaxx single speed mod, and the old diffs are not anywhere near as strong.

Good lord, you really like to change trucks like I change pimp hats!

I just bought a MSR Mugen truggy. Looks good, all new from what I can see. Kind of an impulse buy, but it was only 150 shipped.

Why not keep the mugen and buy the emaxx? I like to collect stuff, as you already know...

Yes, probably that's what i do, but can i run a single 4s pack on the new e-maxx?

And is the stock motor mount can accept a Neu 1515?
