NEW Kontronik motors and controllers
Kontronik has now published new motors and controllers.
The "KIRA" motors have got a built in fan and are availible in 400-650 size. http://www.kontronik.de/Grafik2008/Kiraalle200.jpg http://www.kontronik.de/Grafik2008/K...irektmasse.jpg They are replacing the FUN motors. According to Kontronik, the motors can be taken up to 50000rpm without problems. The new Kira 650 with a weight of 330g and 1100kv, 1300kv, 1500kv and 1700kv should be really nice in a 1:8th car. The "JIVE" controllers are available in a HV (50V) and a LV (25V) version. They are waterproof, have got proportional brakes and a built-in BEC that can take up to 15A peak, even on 12s Lipo. http://www.kontronik.de/Grafik2008/Jiveklein.jpg Here's the datasheet: http://www.kontronik.de/Datenblattjive.html There will be a 80LV, 100LV, 60HV and the Jive 80HV availible which is only 84g heavy (w. wires) and can take up to 4000W :gasp: The motors and controllers will be availible in march. |
Those look nice. We'll have to see how much these things are going to sell for here in the US. They should be available from Tower though, so they should be easy for us to get a hold of.
|
Yeah, they look really nice. The German retail price for the Kira 650 motors is 229€, the retail price for the Jive 80 LV is 249€, the Jive 100 LV 299€, the Jive 60 HV 279€ and the retail price for the Jive 80 HV is 329€.

Looks like the same fan set up as the one now available on Lehners.
|
Good News.
That is really good news for us:yipi:. it looks as if several of the electronic manufacturers wants a piece of the action, which means more of a selection for us:yes:. Plus in their need to compete with each other their prices will have to be competitive in the long run:rofl:. Maybe not at first, but things will go through changes over the next few months. Yiippeee for us.
|
sweet. It will be nice to have another option for controllers. I have heard good stuff about the current line of Jazz controllers, although I havn't tried one myself, yet.
|
They look like the same motors to me but with a different gearbox. Same specs too if i can recall.
|
that's fantastic news!
The thing is that they seem to be light too! 330 g for a 650 sized motor. Not bad at all! i think it's only a matter of time before their 63V is also available with proportional brakes. I spoke with a guy of kontronik 1,5 year back in Germany, and he told me they had something going. This must have been it. |
Change
It's pretty cool just to be a part of the metaporphisis that is going on within the RC industry right now. It sucks to have to wait for things to come out when you already have an idea of what they are, but still the advances are similar to what the laptop industry has been going through for the last few years. It is exciting to know that things are changing for the better from our standpoint. Personally this waiting time is great for me, because I am paying off my Xmas purchases and begining to save for the MMM and whatever else comes out.

hi
the jive looks good. if it really will have a prop brake thats nice. last week there was some information that it won't be the case. so lets hope this is the correct information now. i don't like the open cans of the motors. seems not really 'offroad capable' imo. bye rhylsadar |
I don't think that the open cans will be a problem, it's like an outrunner where all the small stones are pushed away.
|
in the sand, dirt and dust in real offroad this will most probably be a huge problem.
http://62.2.107.106/~beat/images/22-...dirty_(23).jpg but hey each to his own. some drive in much 'cleaner' conditions. i would not try it. bye rhylsadar |
There are some people who don't consider that offroad rhylsader, that looks more like mud-diving to me.
I personally can't enjoy driving my rc's around when it is soaking wet. it simple isn't my cup of tea. |
yeah. as i said: to each his own. i see in a lot of forums etc many people driving with their monster trucks in 'special clean' conditions so to say. thats all fine with me. its all about fun. if somebody has fun with the monster trucks on pavement or nice flat tracks. so be it.
i drive my monsters like nitro monsters in just the same locations and conditions. sometimes its a bit wet but it is sure always dirty. just bashing. so its like always a matter of preferences. bye rhylsadar |

But let's just say the "Horse got it choked down", the money was coughed up, and a Nice Kontronik ESC was purchased. Does anyone have any input on Warranty or Repair Service with Kontronik? I wouldn't mind spending the extra cash IF I knew they would stand behind their product like Quark or Castle does. |
I think you'd be hard-pressed to beat the value and service that Castle offers. I got impatient waiting for the MMM (who wouldn't be!) and bought a BK. I am now fighting for warranty coverage with them, and learning German, all at the same time.
I think that with ESCs, if you don't buy them from a company in your own country, you're going to have support issues due to the language barrier and also the shipping/customs issues. I probably would have been better off to roll the dice on a modded MM esc. Sleeb |
Correctamundo.
You are absolutely right on that one. It is hard enough dealing with warrenty issues when the company has to uphold the consumer laws in your own country, but when you have to deal with international laws it gets very tricky in deed:diablo:. In all actuallity it is near impossible to enforce anything across international borders. The only thing any of us may have in our favor is if the company is big enough to not want bad publicity dealing with the USA. Otherwise it is a crap shoot:na:.
I have been traveling around the world for many years now with the type of work that I do, and I use to think that customer service was bad in the USA. Now that I have seen what a lot of other countries are dealing with for customer service:rofl: the USA looks pretty good overall. We are spoiled with the civilized way that our elders have set things up for us. Good customer service outside of the USA is very rare and surprizing when I do see it. Germany was actually pretty good, in country for the most part. The UK (I was there 8 years) is level with the USA, but the rest of Europe has no idea of what customer service is. or why they should use it:lol: One piece of advice I can give you is this. If you have an issue with a country that does not speak your language try to get someone to make the call for you that does speak their tounge. They will be much more receptive. |

Kontronik is cool and I'm going to get the Jive as well as the Kira 600 motors in the future.
LET THE NEW REVOLUTION BEGINS!!!! YUPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEIIIIIIIIIII!! |
Oh, here's a link to the specs of this dude:

Kontronik are good about servicing. I've read of many Kontronik ESCs getting repaired or replaced for free. They do charge for firmware upgrades, however.
The Jives won't be cheap, but if they're as good as the Jazzes are now, they're going to rock. Don't forget their price tag includes a high quality, integrated switching BEC. |
Golly, did you guys notice that the onboard BEC is programmable?! Looks like one can program it from 5V to 6V if I'm reading correctly...
|
I think I'm right. Take a look at this photo of the ProgCard II. Adjustable in 0.2V increments.
It's really great to see a company listen! |
The Jive will be good, but I'm not sure if it will be as good as a Jazz due to the fact it won't have the car mode.
|
I've just sent Mike Franz a message regarding the car mode. Hopefully an answer will be returned by tuesday.
|
With proportional braking I would imagine it has car modes. What other kinds of models need proportional braking?
|
Boats, I think.....

One of the most unique features is they are watertight. No more worries with heavy offroading under wet conditions (Snow, mud ...). No dust can enter ... I know most of you guys wouldn't ever consider doing it, but i love to drive on snow and always worry how to protect my components the best way. The ESC is one (when not the) most expensive part.
And you can add your prefered cooling solution to the cooling plate to boost its power handling up to double its spec. A guy loosely related to kontronik as a saler of kontronik ESCs and motors stated on a german forum that it won't include reverse. But this is unconfirmed ... The jazz ESC don't handle freewheeling perfectly. Aragon also experienced this phenomenon. Let's see what the Jives will do when you release the Throttle from full speed down to let's say half speed. Having an integrated switching BEC up to 12s lipo is a great feature for High Voltage folks too. |
Okay, Franz said it has all the modes and programming of the Jazz except for car's reverse mode.

Nay, the MMM is about to come next month, so I say getting this controller won't be any good, really.
I believe the MMM has a big chance of running 8s easily. |
Ok, anyone using KIRA 600 in something about Emaxx size? How much voltage can they take? And current? I look at kira and may be nice option to medusa, do you think so?
About Jive- no version with reverse?? |
They are gaining momentum in brushless conversions in germany, but due to their price level and cheaper/better options they are not so wide spread.
. Emaxx with Kira 600/24, Jive 80LV and 4s lipo: video . Emaxx with Kira 650/17, Jive 100LV and 6s lipo: pic, video . Mugen MBX5T Truggy with kira 600/24, Quark125b, 4s lipo or 4s2p A123: pic, video And so on ... >How much voltage can they take? And current? Depends on what winding you choose. Their rpm limit is at 50000rpm. I would choose them about the same way as you would choose a Neu motor. Run them between 30000-40000rpm and you should be fine with an appropriate gearing. Since they have a built in fan, more rpm translates to more cooling. For reference i would expect more then 120A peak from a Kira 600/24 with 4s lipo, but this really depends on the load you will put on it (vehicle wheight and gearing). A Kira 600 is a light (270gr) motor fitting somewhere between a Neu 1509 and 1512. It works very well in a 1:8 Buggy on 4s (Kira 600/24) and due to its cooling fan is also able to cope with a lighter MT or truggy. But i would rather choose a Kira 650/15 or 17 with 5s or 6s when you are planing to power a truck or truggy. The jive ESC series still has no reverse. |
Thank you for your answer. Will Kira 600/20 be not enough for 6S2p a123 in emaxx #3905? I don't want backflips all the time :) Or it has to be Kira 650 for emaxx sized MT for 6s a123?
Do Jive ESC have current limiter set by user? |
The Kira 600 sure has enough power for an Emaxx especially on 6s2p A123 (Good for 3KW peak). The bigger Kira 650 would run cooler under heavy load, but the Kira 600 should stay in check tempwise, but may be on the hotter side. I would fit the Kira 600 with the kontronik KK600 heatsink as showed in the MBX5T pic.
The Jive ESC has no feature to set a current limit. |
And which german motor you would suggest for emaxx with 6s??? 900-1500W.
