Hi, welcome! I have a quark 125b and it is a good controller, but it is also so awkward to mount...if you are going to spend that kind of loot, I recommend you also consider one of the MGM controllers. I have two of those and I really like them. They have thus far proved to be very robust.

Arct1k 02.01.2008 02:57 PM

I'd either go cheap with the MM at 58GBP or wait a while for the MMM if you can...

The quarks always bothered me as you still need and UBEC and seem to have to strip the thing apart to do the headsink mod...

A MM will be replaced for 25GBP if you toast it... thats my 2p

Serum 02.01.2008 02:59 PM

5S might be a tad too much for the MM on the 9XL though.

The MMM can be well worth the wait; A 6S capable combo with a Neu type of motor for 300 usd, sounds unbeatable to me.

brushless revo 02.01.2008 03:04 PM

the mgm is a little out of my buget im affrade but if i was going to get one is it worth it ie do i need a ubec with it and does it get hot ????
mmm is not out yet im inpatient and really want a esc asap lol

brushless revo 02.01.2008 03:29 PM

ow and thanks for the quick replys
how long do you think it will take untill the mmm is releasted??????

Serum 02.01.2008 03:34 PM

Should be end march. but i wouldn't hold my breath.. you might suffocate..

Arct1k 02.01.2008 03:42 PM

Hmmm yes it was supposed to be before last summer - but sounding more realy now...

Yes you'd need an ubec and 4s is ok with MM and works ok on a 9XL - I have 3 of those setups on a MBX5T, Revo and X1CR

I have two of the MGM22418 (224 amp, 6S) with the internal 6V BEC. Mine stay cool as a cucumbers. A lot of guys run the MGM16018 (160 amp, 6S)and those systems run a little warmer...but I can't speak from personally experience on the 160 amp controllers.

Serum 02.01.2008 03:47 PM

But the MGM controllers can also be bought with active cooling nowadays; two fans onto heatsinks, powered from the UBEC i guess. no extra wiring needed. A pretty neat solution IMO. UBEC/LVC/Fans etc all in one. Easy for a clean setup.

brushless revo 02.01.2008 03:48 PM

ok thanks
is 4s enuff to power a revo ????? and what would runtimes be if i ran a 4s 5000 oam on mm and 9xl in my revo ?????? mgm are well out of my buget i do like them but £200 is alot compared to £60 for a mm

suicideneil 02.01.2008 04:01 PM

4s is fine for powering an E-revo, you'd only want a higher voltage if you were trying to build an endurance basher (long runtimes through lower amp draw/higher voltage).

As for runtimes, check this out for some ideas: CLICKY

I would have thought 15-20minutes or more though with the 9XL on board.

david lamontagn 02.01.2008 04:04 PM

I've a e-revo, with Neu 1515, 1Y, MGM 16018 and a 4s, flightpower 5000mAh, and it's verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry powerfull setup, you can believe me:wink:
But if i spend some more money next summer i'll buy a 5s or 6s, just for the fun.
On my revo, i'am to remove the entire transmission. I'll only keep the output shaft and make an adaptor to mount a Kyosho 46 spur gear directly on the stock revo output tranny shaft. And i'll use the Tekno rc elektri clutch system to the place of the standart mod1 pinion to allow a little slipping from a dead stop.

What an awesome thread you linked to Neil.. Perhaps i should put that data in a datasheet someday..

brushless revo 02.01.2008 04:28 PM

ok thanks great runtime thread thanks
i really like the specs and price on the quark 125b as i really want to run a 5s for insane run time and power what are your opinoions on the quark with a heat sink and 2 40 mm fans ???? will it be the right esc for me and my 9xl (i may upgrade to neu in future) but i want reliabilty

lol, wasn't that the initial intent? C'mon man, stop procrastinating!

Ideally, it would be nice to create a table and integrate it into the forum. As an alternative, if you can port it all over to spreadsheet form, I can add the data to my calculations site, and then use active content to let users filter for certain criteria...

I use that setup with one of my Maxx trucks and it should work well for you too. However, please consider this:

Quark 125B $275 (125 amps, 5S safely)
RCM Heatsink $30
UBEC $25
2 Fans $25
Somewhat of a messy setup with all the wires from UBEC and fans
No USB programming capability

MGM22418 $395 (224 amps, 6S safely)
No fans or UBEC required
USB and programming card capable
Simpler/cleaner setup

Both are very good controllers...but if I had to do it all over again I would have bought another MGM instead of the Quark125B. Not trying to brainwash you but for an extra $40 the MGM is a better/flexible choice (IMO).

Here's an idea for you...it'd be nice to have Brian's calculator and some other RC tools in a format that would work on Palm handheld PDAs.

I'll even step it up a notch...imagine putting Castle Link and MGM Controller on a Palm. Then all you racers could do on the spot adjustments without having to breakout the clunky laptops.

Just a thought.

when you put it like that your right thank you im now going to save for a mgm do they last long and are there any real props with them

Some folks have complained about some of the older MGMs reverse feature not working correctly...but I have two newer ones that I purchased from Mike and they are fine. I would invite others to respond...because it is a mixed bag on customer service (apparently warranty repairs take a long time). But I think if you use it within spec and you don't get too crazy with gearing you'll defitely be fine.

brushless revo 02.02.2008 05:36 AM

now im thinking it may be worth waiting a month or two and see if the mmm comes out is it going to be worth the wait and will i close my eyes when i see the price lol

skillx 02.02.2008 12:51 PM

I have read that many people are having great luck with these ====>

https://www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITED...idProduct=4691

Might give it a shot as for the money it "SEEMS" to be well worth it! I just ordered one to try in a couple different cars/truck i got.

brushless revo 02.02.2008 02:25 PM

let me know what its like ie temp and performance wise
is there anyone else that has used these is so what they like
