Is this the idler gear needed to go brushless?
|
idler
That is the proper gear. The idler isn't something that you MUST have, unless you are hard on your truck. The diffs should be upgraded first, followed by the driveshafts (particularly the rear). After these items, the idler gear is the weak link. I currently have 3 brushless e-maxxes, and 2 of them have the aluminum idler gear. It has been over a year since I have replaced the stock idler in the third truck. I mostly race, though, and my trucks are pretty light (compared to some trucks out there!). If you want a bulletproof truck, then I highly recommend the idler gear, along with a list of other upgrades. I've also seen people run brushless power on a stock truck for quite some time without upgrading (myself included). A lot depends on the driver and terrain and weight of the truck.

Do you have a link to the diffs for the backyard bashers?
|
There are a few diff options. The UE/SM are a bulletproof solution, if you have the $$$. I personally use maximizer diff cups with modified ring gears inside Integy aluminum cases. These are lighter than the SM diffs and I haven't had any durability issues in over three years of brushless running. The Maximizer/Integy parts are available here at Rc-Monster.

That sounds like the perfect solution for me.
Linky? Thanks |

So 2 of each correct?
What about the alloy gearbox collar. I will need 2 of those too? |
Yes, two of each are needed to complete the truck. The gearbox collars are sold as individual units, so if you opted for those, two would be necessary as well.

1 Attachment(s)
and dont forget to upgrade them axels - these brushless units put out some serious power - i've melted mine...although someone once told me im a little hard on my gmaxx...:L:

When replacing the idler gears do you need to grease them?
|
Grease is not necessary. It wouldn't hurt anything, but it will fly off the gears at high rpm anyway.
