mgmcompro 16018 setting problems.
hi to all.
I recently bought a mgmcompro 16018, a feigao 8xl and a heatsink from rcmonster, all good and very fast shipping. The problem is that i dont know how to set up or programm my esc. Can i use an usb link to set my esc like mamba max does? please give me some information to set the esc cause i already have my revo ready to rip, just need to set the esc. Im running the mgm 16018, feigao 8xl and a 4s 5000mah lipo. Any ideas? thanx for all and greetings. |
You can download the manual HERE
You can program the control without the USB interface. It is achieved by using your transmitter (refer manual). You can also purchse the USB interface and adapter cable from RC-Monster this is what you will need 1 X MGM Connection Cable 2 1 X MGM usbCom+ You will find them HERE Hope that helps Andrew |
If you bought the MGM new from RCM it should come with a manual. Best advise is to READ it. It will tell you how to program it. The MGM programing with the transmitter is slightly confusing the first time or 2 you do it, but once you have done it once or twice it makes perfect sense and is very simple to do.
Once you get into it and if something doesn't make sense, shout out again. There are plenty of folks around here that have done this before and should be able to help you figure out specific questions. |
thanx guys for the help.
i ve tryed to programm the esc without succes. Im doing what the manual says: i turn on the transmitter, with trigger at full throtle i switch on the esc and waits for 10 seconsd to hear three beeps ( right till here) later i need to move the trigger to full brake and wait fro three secons to hear others beeps, but the esc begin beeppin all the time, beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep, and doesnt respond to my commandd any help thanx and greetings from spain |
Get the two cables mentioned in post #2 and it will be as easy to program as an MM.

patx - check to make sure the epa on your radio is adjusted as high as it will go on both ends (throttle and brake). If you dont get enough travel the esc might not be recogizing it. |

Sorry, I never had that problem with mine. I pluged right up set batts, cutoff and freewheel and was ready to roll. |
If using a spektrum, try setting up the end points with a receiver battery, and make sure that the brake is set to 100% (default is 50%).

Can I help with your MGM problems? Are you still not able to program it?
Let me guess.. You have a Futaba transmitter. Switch it from HRS mode to PPM mode. It will only recognize PPM right now. (in a few weeks MGM will offer an updated program to enable the controller to work fine with both PPM and HRS). Also you will need to change the servo direction for the throttle servo (via transmitter settings). Futaba has their servo directions reversed from what other manufacturers have. After this, you should be able to set it up. After you program the controller for the first time, continue on and follow the "automatic tuning" section in the manual. It will finish off most of the "tuning" you need to do with this controller. Hope this helps! |
I can't believe it. I just received my MGM 16018 speed control and I'm having the same issue as "patxeik". I have a Futaba 3PK radio and use a Futaba R203HF HRS receiver.
marzac2 I have tried all the suggestions you listed and still nothing. I can report that when in HRS mode the motor will continuous beep...beep...beep etc after holding full throttle and the switching on the speed control. I have tried reversing the channel but still get the same response. When I switch to either PPM or PCM mode I get no recognition from the speed control or motor. I have tried reversing the throttle channel in all modes and still nothing. I have even tried to on hold the throttle on just slightly to see if it makes a difference and nothing happens, no beeps, nothing.... Maybe I should find a standard (non HRS) receiver and try it. (wish there was a crying smiley) |

Try it with a receiver battery? |

Check to see that your servo wires are in the receiver correctly (brown=black, orange=white, red=red).
Have your 3pk on PPM mode with the receiver you have, it should work fine. Change the throttle servo direction until your radio displays "reverse on". Plug the battery pack in (no separate receiver battery), turn your transmitter on and hold the throttle back, than turn the MGM switch on (while still holding the throttle back, "full throttle"). Keep it held like this for about 10 seconds and suddenly, the unit will just beep three times. Immediately move the throttle to full "brake" position and the unit will beep at you one time. Next, let go of the throttle, to the "neutral" position, and the unit will beep twice... Go in to programming from here. You can try reversing this procedure and go to "full brake" position first, to see if the servo direction is correctly set. (because of it being Futaba) Other than that, give it some patience, and setting it up will be easier as you learn it. It is made in the Czech republic and some features/grammar/information/programming seem like they have been lost in the translation... to say it comically. Check out the MGM-compro.com website for some more information, like changing the unit so that there will be no large "spark", normally encountered when plugging in a pack of large voltage. I have heard about the service being slow/bad, but in my experience, they have answered all of my questions so far and have stood behind their products. I had Mike order some MGM brake light kits (two small LED's) that plug in to the unit and give a cool effect! Good luck ya all. Keep posting your problems and we'll all collaborate to solve the issues. Great Forum! |

I'm 99% sure I have followed your instructions. I checked double checked and triple check all my connections and have made sure to set the transmitter in PPM mode (and turned the transmitter on and off to switch from previous mode) I have set the throttle channel to reverse and vice versa still no luck. |
I've a Futaba 3PM FASST 2.4gHz in PPM mode and it's work fine eith my MGM 16018.
Never try in HRS mode... |
