my brushless build>>>yusa rally onroad<<<

i wanted to give an update on my build i'm doing on a $98 shipped ebay 1/8 buggy onroad roller i bought. i'm sure most people here know about the car. anyways, i planed on uploading some pics as soon as some of my stuff starts arriving and today was the day, but i can't find the camera anywhere. my wife had it somewhere and i can't find it:diablo:

so for now, i'll explain what ive done and what i've got. i'll try to get a pic up tonight if i can get my wife off her phone long enough to find the cam. so far i've taken apart the diffs front and rear and i put 7k rear and 10k front. thats the only fluids i had. i put 50wt in the shocks and changed their position to give better ground clearence just incase i scurry across the lawn here and there. i made the motor mount from a peice of 2"x2" angle aluminum. this is temp until i get my mill(then its on:mdr:). also im using the angle aluminum to fab up some battery mounts where the mud guards would normaly be on a buggy. i will line them with some rubber tool box matt for the batteries to ride on. for now, i have 2 4s1p's of a123 that'll be upgraded to 2 6s1p's in the near future. so i'll be using 26.4v for now. i'm keeping the 2speed and should see 70+ on the 8cells and over 90 on the 12 i'm hoping. for motor, i couldn't locate the first choise turn of feigao xl, so i upgraded from that which saved me $$. i got a kb45 10xl, which was cheaper, and don't need a clamp. i also got the 100a hv tower pro esc to run it. a cc bec to run my 2.4 fasst reciever and servo's. i haven't gotten the servo's ordered yet. for looks, i have an ofna mclairen. :yipi: sick looking body and looks like its going to fit the car nice. thats it for now, i'll post more with pics if i think of anything i left out.

some pics i know i'm missing the front drive shaft in one of the pics. i have to pull the center diff out again and install it and my break disc.

Looks like its gonna be a sweet build! Are you sure that hobbywing 100a ESC will run it using the ESC brakes? I doubt it will brake properly.

tom255 02.09.2008 06:22 AM

I made mistake then bought this ESC it not suit to CAR at all this stupid sturtup delays even with lowest setting it stupid slow, no brakes.

tashpop 02.09.2008 07:57 AM

i've heard of alot of people having luck with it working great. if it don't, i'll just look into something else like a castle hv85.

the esc will not be using breaks. thats why i have to put my break disc back in for the break servo to do the work.

tom255 02.09.2008 08:22 AM

For speed runs and drag race its OK but for race when you need good response on trigger it not suitable. OK try you will see :)

tashpop 02.09.2008 09:11 PM

if your right, that will be okay. thats exactly what i do, bash and dragrace.

got some progress done today. i was hoping to get it finished this weekend, but i had to work saturday, so i lost a complete day.

first up, body is painted. it didn't turn out like i wanted it to. i didn't know what to expect with the color on the front, and i think it throws it off a little. i'm always hard on my painting though.

now for the insides. i moved my servos around a little, flipped the break to the front, mounted the motor, got the battery trays on, and made some small peices to tie the center to the front. i'm thinking about making a mount on those peices to place my reciever and bec. everything is rough at this point, and i also plan on putting some holes on the battery trays to lighten them up some.

quick question before i tackle the electronics. i've only hooked up ubec's with esc's that have a built in bec. i know for those you disconnect the red radio wire. do i need to do it with this esc or do i leave it there to power the brains?

Arct1k 02.13.2008 09:09 AM

The only thing you have to do is remove the red wire to the ESC. ESC is powered directly from the battery connection.

tashpop 02.13.2008 02:19 PM

so why would this esc even have that red wire if there is no built in bec. seems like an extra step in connecting it up if you have to power your radio equipment seperatly anyways.

snellemin 02.13.2008 02:41 PM

That is a good paintjob man. The white rims are setting it off a bit, if that is a fault you are trying to see.

That will be a screamer down the track and lots of OOH's and AAAAH's at the next TNT.

Arct1k 02.13.2008 03:59 PM

Pass on that one! but best be safe and remove it...

tashpop 02.13.2008 10:29 PM

yeah, i will and if it works, i'll just leave it and not push my luck. somebody knows the answer though.

i agree about the wheels, i'm thinking something gray, black, or yellow would fit it better.
