Bolink Econo Rail Dragster
A buddy doesn't have his account setup here yet, so I am posting this for him to get some advice from the gurus here.
He picked up a Bolink Econo Rail Dragster and is planning on tossing his newly modded mamba max into it. He exchanged the caps for some 470uF (I added 4 of these externally to mine) as my bud flipped his brushless revo without a lid and one of the caps got road rash. The guy that modded it goes by The Steve on forums. He does testing and such for castle as far as I understand. I do know he makes spektrum rx's, a lap counting system, and a drag timing tree, among other things. Pretty good at the electrics. Anyway, he wants to do some speed runs with the timing tree and was going to toss a 3s lipo and a 7700 in. Steve told him they were tossing 4s with a 7700 in drag cars and getting 100mph.... I thought 3S was going past the motors max rpm? |
The rules changes in dragracing. You run max everything, since the race is 2 seconds or less for the fast cars. As you can see Max motor RPM is never reached. It becomes rotations per second.

If they are getting 100mph out of a MM motor on 4s I'm sure they are getting the rpms up past the max rated limit. The motors wont last long that way, and im sure they are pushing them past their rated limits for very short bursts. Not a good idea for general use for sure. They are just taking their chances that the motors can handle it for a short burst. I'm sure that more than a few of them have blown the motors, escs or both by doing it as well.

Risk.
The risks are no different then the real thing except that no one is riding in the vehicle that could get injured or killed:lol:. They tear down their systems after every run to get them rebuilt for the next pass. They are pushing those systems way past their rated specs to acheive the goal of going very very very fast:intello:. I know that I would risk the electronics even if I could only do one run over 100mph just for the experience:yipi:. Of course everyone hopes that it will not go up in flames, but that is the risk you take to acheive those kinds of speeds. You only life once right???

The mamba ESC don't blow up and neither do the motors. And they don't even do any mods them either, as we do here on this forum.

If it works it works. No real experience on dragser setup from me. I just know that 4s on a 7700kv motor will for sure exceed its specs.

I asked because my buddy fried his mamba with a 6 cel at offroad last week. I knew he was overgeared a bit, so am leary about the 7700 now. he mentioned it to me and I said he better get some advice from you guys. I read and read every day but it isn't the same as practical experience. I just said it's better if I post something and get him more than just one person's opinion before he goes ahead.
I know the dragster weighs nothing |
He can check out www.imdra.com, www.hamdrl.com and that dragracing forum on RCU. There is also www.bigsquid.com.
Dragster are about 2lbs, so the 7700kv motor is fine, even if it's overgeared. |
