Locking the savage tranny in second
I've just broken my reverse module :bad:and since first is too low I want to lock it in second. Has anyone got a picture of how they locked theirs or any ideas how to do it. I'm lost for ideas so any help would be great, thanks.

If you have a lathe, i've got a drawing for a part that you could use.
Not the best option IMO; the best suited option would be to maken an entire shaft that locks it into 2nd gear. If i get my savage (waiting for the postman to deliver it) i'll invest some time in drawing one and ask Jamie (Fastlane) to make them. It will be fair easy to make They are available in Germany at nitromods.de, but these are meant to lock it in 1st. With some adaptions you could use it to lock it in 2nd. bare in mind that locking the savage in 2nd gear, the controller will take more beating.. |
Sadly i don't have a lathe. I'll have to try locking it up with a few screws but i doubt they'll be up to much.

hi
here some pics of the shaft to lock it in first gear. modded with four pins to hold the gear. http://62.2.107.106/~beat/images/18-12-04/fourpins5.jpg http://62.2.107.106/~beat/images/09-04-04/blwelle2.jpg i would not lock it in 2nd because you get a very long gearing. if you lock it in the first gear imo you still have plenty of options with the pinion (9 to 25t) and the spur gear (47 to 53t) to play with the gearing. just my view. bye rhylsadar |
Who gave you that fantastic idea for those pins?! :intello:

some dutch guy .... i guess he was called buikpjin....
if there is once a new shaft designed and sold here at rcm something like that with the pins would be a nice idea. a shaft to fix the savage tranny would be a great idea anyhow. i do not like those mechanical brakes and 2speed trannys on the brushless savages at all. bye rhylsadar |
Two pins would be enough though; it would be fair easy to produce them like that. somehow the crosspin seems to loosen up after time, even with hardened drivecups this happens.

I find that i need reverse and as there are no stronger parts for the reverse module i thought it would better to lock the tranny instead of replacing parts regularly.

I'm not sure how i would lock the tranny but 1st seemed too low for me, especially when i'm not using a very high voltage(5s2p A123). |
