e-zilla and BL system - ideas and thoughs?
Well I know 1/10 electric MT this isnt even out yet but I think its worth talking about especially since I put some money down at the LHS for one. Iits good competiton for the emaxx and maybe itll spike some more MTs like it.
Anyway - I figure before I fiddle with motors/batts/esc - why not do it right and go straight BL and lipo (maybe), what do you think? The only BL system I know about personally is mambas in minis :) im more a nitro guy but Im excited to get into it cause I love my BL/lipo setup in the 18t I got. So, for the budget concious - whats a good recommendation for a newb - go with the hv-maxx - or do you all have something cheaper or comparable that would work well? I got a lipo so if you recommend going that route cool - but I dont have a clue what sorta lipos I would need and how many - cost is a factor but maybe its more cost effective to get 1 single larger lipo then tons of stick packs :) Here is a link for those who dont know alot about the hot bodies ezilla... http://www.hpiracing.co.jp/contents_...bodies/ezilla/ (with video) http://www.hotbodiesonline.net/e_zilla.html If this has been started elsewhere dont kill me - I did search but I think we could get something going :) Thanks! elite BL newb |
Wow, that e-zilla looks fast. Proabbably cuz hpi learned not to make the car so big and heavy like traxxas. How much they cost?
|
tower has em for 349 - 25 so for 325 rtr with a dual charger and batteries (2 sticks who knows what they are) it seems like a great deal to me!!!! I ordered it from my LHS - no idea what they will charge but im sure its competitive - I HOPE :)
Looks good doesnt it :) So what to do , what to do .................. recommendations :) |
I think it looks like a great addition to the ele. mt family. If it is the same size as the savage i hope theykept the basic design of the savage tranny, its goimg to need it if one finds it's way around here. I know i'm looking to get one(after i get a G REVO chassis)

just do your self a favor and run it a couple of times as stock, that way you have something to compare performance to. I've heard stories of so many people not even running the car before they rip it apart to put a BL setup, and more often than not in nitro rip out the engine to put something totally huge in. Of course in the nitro scenario you only have to break in one engine..., so i guess do what feels good,
I think I just talked my self out of my own arguement, sorry! |
I agree it looks good.As far as set ups go i'd be inclined to go fairly conservative (12-14 cells)as it's quite a short wheelbase.
I wouldn't get the the HV maxx, if you go for a sensorless system you'll have more scope for different motors and cell counts.an MGM or BK controller or maybe the new Mamba maxx would be more versatile. If you want to go lipo with it i'd recommend waiting for FMA's SkyVolt system(should be available mid september). It uses the cell balancing circuitry(safer) from the scorpion and balance pro but will charge up to 6 cell packs and will be available with the 20c kokam cells. You could maybe run a pair of 4s in parallel with the Mamba maxx which i think will have LVC for lipo. Not sure what motor, maybe a 9l,any way a pair of 4s in parallel would give you lots of run time with an efficient motor at that voltage. Actually a pair of the scorpion 2p2s packs in series should work the same and you could just use the warrior 9920 controller.(ask some one else about current draw first though as the 9920 is rated for 99 amps). The scorpion has LVC built in, just daisy chain the LVC connectors for multiple packs. |
ummmmm - dude - you were speaking greek to me man - I said please in newb terms lol.....
Id wait for a newer system if you recommend, what are prices, whats it gonna run to get into BL - forgetting batteries for now. HB is getting them THIS WEEK - they will hit stores in the next few weeks guys...I got got am email today. Also they tossed in a lil teaser - "Out of the box they should hit around 25-30MPH with the potential to go much faster." that was part of the email so im guessing they mean its definetly capable/ready for hotter motors and or more cells.....I saw a pic today with 7 cells - there was the 7th sticking outta the case, looked like the motors were upgraded as well but it was still a dual setup. Anyhow, Im soooo excited about this - I love my nitro but still cant wait for it to arrive! |
I'd say it's built to be a basher, with a race truck availible if you change a few things. The shocks are pretty soft it looks like, don't know if that's springs or oil, but it has some serious body roll while doing figure eights in that little vid. I'd still go for it though, if the E-Monster was my kind of thing, and I had the cash.

should be getting mine tomorrow so my LHS says :) im freakinnn sooo excited to see this baby....2 bad its a single speed.....but whatever ill take it :)
Im sure itll need a BL system soon heeheh but id like to sell all the stock stuff and im not sure what its worth... oh well lata :) ill post pics |
uh-oh! single speed. u better get a big spur gear. That car is gunna keep flipping.
|
This may sound silly.....but on my revo, when I went with a larger spur it actually gave it more bite (low end).....isn't it the other way around?
smaller spur less low end? |
Smaller spur has the same effect as bigger pinion.
Bigger pinion (or smaler spur) = less reduction Smaller pinion (bigger spur) = more reduction More reduction means more torque at the wheels but less top speed. Less reduction gives you more top speed, but less torque. |
THE REVO IS UNIQUE!
|
OPPS, i meant a bigger pinion or a small spur gear. LOL! i got if flip flopped
|
it is but thats not the right answer :0) hehe.
