Reverse with mechanical brakes
 

If i were to keep the mechanical brakes, how can i reverse?

what do you guys prefer? mechanical brakes with no reverse or Motor reverse and brakes.

It you have a really good transmitter I think you could do it. You could set up the transmitter for brake on a separate channel and use that when the throttle stick is put in the brake area. Then use a button or switch to put the throttle zone into reverse. It would then work like reverse on a nitro would. The challenge would be finding a radio that has the ability to be programmed in that way. Heli and plane radios can do it but I don't have experience with the high end car radios.

haha, sounds confusing. But i'm thinking of just going the motor brakes and reverse route than the mechanical brakes. I should not even stress about it because I can switch over if i want.

I like mech brakes and no reverse - I think these big trucks stress the electrics enough in getting going let alone stopping :)

You could always just keep the mini servo to shift into reverse like stock? is there a problem with that?

No you normally can't.

What I said isn't too complicated. Basically the radio needs adjustable throttle curves, channel mixing and the one that i'm not sure if car radios have is switchable throttle curves (ie. 2 different curves you can switch between while driving, idle up switch on heli radio).

I ride a 2003 Giant AC1. It doesn't get out much these days though. I spend most of my time riding on the road on an old cross country bike converted for road use.

yeah, if i had a transmitter i would work on it, but i just have a stock transmitter.

you can use the tekno kit and keep the 2 speed with mech brakes and reverse.

Sorry, you didn't mention anything else about your truck, I thought it was just a hypothetical. I guess if you have locked in second then you might not be able to...I'm not even too sure how the reverse stuff works in these cars, i ripped it straight out lol.

reverse in the revo tranny is pretty simple. There a gear on a slider shaft which moves forward to engage the forward gears, and to the rear to engage a small, cheap looking plastic gear that controls reverse. You don't need to Y to a controller or anything. After you shift it to reverse, forward on the throttle will be reverse. Then you will need to shift it back. My concern with a brushless motor is that the torque will be much too intense for the cheap little reverse gear. You would not be able to limit the EPA on reverse without affecting forward throttle.

I this is where the teckno kit benefits, because of the clutch setup. It should be a bit more gentle. You'd just need to watch your finger while reverse is engaged.
