Feigao Finned motor

Hello everyone my first post wa-hoo........

I am building a 1/8 Ofna Ultra MBX R2 ( brushless ) and plan on eventually getting a 1515/1Y for it but for now have one of these

http://www.rc-monster.com:80/proddet...540C_XL&cat=20

Does anyone have any experience running one or any worth while info....thank you

If you plan it meant maybe you dont have a ESC too, to be honest save money and wait untill end of march and buy MMM combo. Monster Mamba Max will have NEU motor.
I have 9XL this finned motor and its still heats up. with fan on 4s geared on my LSP to ~35mph i get allmost 15min of runtime before it limits critical temp 180 degree.

The great Peter Zicha. Man it is an honor to have such a guy in here with us. The Feigaos are good and are bad. Some people have luck with them and some don't. The ones that do have luck with them don't complain much as it does the job. I had a 540C-9L in my MBX5T and it did the job really good. Peter it's very nice to have one more brushless guru to help us out.

Not to sound rude, but who is Peter Zicha? Just curious...

Thank you very much guys , I am humbled by your welcome........ . Luchiano thank you for the welcome and info....I have a 1527/1Y but that is way to much motor for the MBX at least until I learn to drive on 4 wheels again , The Feigao I bought a year ago just cause I liked the way it looked but don't know what to expect out of it , also ordered a 11T , 13T , 15T , 17T Mod1 pinions from Mike which should give me a good starting point

Hey welcome. Always good to see someone new bring some knowledge from another area of rc here.

Just curious where you got that buggy? It was mine at one point. I recognize the motor mount and battery tray and revo suspension push rod rear chassis supports. It was my first conversion a couple years ago. I built it and was immediately hooked on the 1/8 brushless and wanted to upgrade. I only ran it a couple times and then it sat for a year or so. I sold it to another member around her some time ago when they were looking to get into 1/8 brushless stuff. Then later I saw it on ebay and then who knows where it went. I just think its funny that it keeps popping up for me.

Sure doesn't look like its seen much run time since it left me. It still looks brand new.

Is that an XL can motor or an L can. It might just be the picture angle but that looks short to be an XL. What wind motor is it and what voltage are you planning to run? If that is the sentilon esc I am curious to hear your feedback on how it runs in the buggy. That thing is good for 12s right?

The Feigao finned can motors are better than the plain can motors as far as heat and durability, but they still have a tendency for the front bell to pop loose when landing a big jump or in a crash. The down side is you can't use the RCM motor clamp/heatsink on it to keep it together. But it should be fine as long as you don't get to crazy with beating on it.

Bought it on Ebay with enough spare parts to build another buggy , this unit doesn't look like it has ever been run , everything is virtualy brand new and the Feigao is a 9L - 2731rpm/volt . I will run it on 12cells NIMH until I upgrade to a Neu motor then it will be either a 5c1p5000 or 6c1p5000 lipo pack ...have lots of them

I wanted a 1/8 buggy to fart around with when I am not boating , eventualy I will put in a 1515/1y or maybe even a 1521/1y to liven things up . When you mentioned upgrading what would be a great choice to upgrade from the Ofna Ultra

The sentilon is a 12c lipo/ 100amp unit , we have had great luck with them on RumRunners forum , exellent deal for the money and tough units but I will for sure post how it works in the buggy , that little Feigao shouldn't even fizz on it

blind leading the blind here...

Peter get yourself a 1512 3D/F for that buggy and run it on NeuEnergy [25C] 5s-1p 5500's if you wanna off-road race...

it will be all the power you need...

if you're bashing put a big block in da volkswagon...

that L can should scream on 12 NIMH. I think you'll be happy with it for a while.

You will be using the mechanical brake Peter? If not, you will be  when you try to brake with the airplane controller.

lincpimp 02.28.2008 11:54 AM

Wee, I will say that your mbx is much nicer than mine! I used a different motor mount, but it all works the same. As for upgrading, the hyper 8.5 is a nice buggy, so is the losi 8 and the AE rc8.

I would say that a 9l will not be too happy with 12 cells, the motor you linked to will be much better. In a car 3s lipo, 10 cells would be all that I would run on a 9l. The 9l has plenty of power, just does not like to be spun up past 40k rpm (like all feigaos) and it can not take as much load as the xl motor.

Yeah, let us know about the brake situation with the hv esc.

Well then, a double welcome to Peter! Like was already said, it's nice to have other knowledgeable people here from the other walks of the R/C world. Glad to have you around.

I will be running only for fun and in a huge open area , a brake wasn't even a concern , here is the programer for the sentilon and it does have a brake , as soon as my pinions come in and I take it out for a spin I will post on the stopping capabilities

The motor in the link is exactly what I have in the car which is a L and not an XL is it possible that it is labeled wrong in the add . the picture in the add is exactly whats in the Ofna
