Turnbuckles from FLM?

What size wrench is needed for the turnbuckles that Jamie makes at FLM? Is it a 2mm? 2.5 mm ?? 3 mm?

Perhaps including a wrench would have made adjustments easier?

I've got a red 5mm traxxas wrench and it's waaay to big. Where can I get a wrench that small that is actually strong enough not to strip the tiny nut on the buckles? My pede came with a wrench that is the same size, but it's made out of chinese pot metal and is not sturdy enough to turn the beasts. Adjusting the toe and camber is difficult without a wrench! aaaarggggh!

This isn't a problem with just the fastlane stuff. Heaps of turnbuckles don't come with wrenches and they all tend to be funny sizes.

Losi makes a wrench that fits multiple size turnbuckles...but I think it is a little awkward to use...

A nut? On turnbuckles? Can you give us a bit mroe detail as to what nut you're talking about? I've never seen any flat spots or nuts on any turnbuckles in any of the FLM stuff I've purchased over the past 3 years.

by nut I mean the 6 sided hex fixture where you adjust the turnbuckle for toe/camber while mounted on the truck.

Traxxas makes aftermarket red/blue turnbuckles that takes a 5mm wrench. Lunsford is 6 or 6.5mm

These FLM turnbuckles are 2mm or 3 mm and nobody--- I mean NOBODY within a 6 state radius of North Carolina makes a wrench that small...

Hey man, if you have a sears, or decent auto store with a tool section look for a set of ignition wrenches. They usually come in std sizes, but many will work with metric, as they are very small fractional sizes. That is what I use for the weird turnbuckles. Or try and scare up a good quality small adjustable wrench, this is not as good as the ignition wrenches though...

Don't know exactly what size you need, but I use a multi-output flat wrench. Here's what I mean:

None of the turnbuckles I have ever gotten from FLM have had the hex on the shaft for adjustments. Also, unless you're really strapped for $, you're better off with another brand of turnbuckles anyhow unless FLM has started actually threading the turnbuckles with reverse threads on one end. It's no fun to have to remove the turnbuckle completely to adjust it.

I went to princess auto (discount tool place) and bought a mini crescent wrench for adjusting turnbuckles. it's about 3 inches long. If I knew fr sure what size you needed, I probably have one here you could have. I have a few from old kits, yokomo and such but after a while those little wrenches get lost in the kit box and the crescent wrench fits anything and is easy to find

if you have a set of calipers, measure the size of the nut, or stick it into a few mini sockets to find the size.

After a long roadtrip to Northern Tool, Sears, Autozone, etc--- the smallest ignition wrench comes in a 4 mm craftsman at sears. (8 and 10 to the set in both metric and standard) The Hardened steel FLM turnbuckles have a 2 or 2.5 (??)mm hex shaft and there is not a wrench small enough on the east coast to turn the buckle.

I've got the tools listed in the jato kit and they are all JUNK as the metal is too soft to turn the hardened steel FLM buckles. The wrench that does fit the buckle should be avoided. Stripping occurs. (leave the dollar bills at home, fellas ;-)

Furthermore, The FLM buckles that came with my FLM stampede kit do not have the correct size for adusting toe (servo steering buckle) I got 4 large and 2 small instead of 2 large for the rear, 2 medium for the steering (toe) and 2 small for the camber. There is an 8 mm varience in size from the small to the missing medium ( and missing medium to the large) and that 8 mm's kicks the wheels off toe too much.

I even have the RPM alum carriers up front with 2 holes for adjustment and the short FLM are too small for the outer hole and the long FLM buckles are too long for the inside hole.

Skellyo-- My buckles are threaded correctly. Perhaps Jamie ran through a bunch on the CNC machine before he realized he was cutting one side the wrong way?

I am running the stock medium buckles for the servo camber adjustment until the lunsford Ti buckles come from heather @ hopmeup on ebay.

Oh, and if anyone had thoughts... I do have the extended chassis and A arm kit.

Possibly. Honestly though, I've had 3 A-Arm kits and none of them have had a hex on the turnbuckle shaft at all. My latest may be threaded correctly (I dunno, didn't use them), but still don't have a hex for adjustment on them. On my VXL Rustlers, I ended up using stock VXL turnbuckles from the Rustler and Stampede to put mine together with the extended front A-Arms and Standard Width Rear A-Arms (FLM24800 kit).
