Motor suggestions for E-Firestorm?
Hi all, I have been lurking around here for a while reading up on lots of everyones lovely bl conversions and although I would love to convert a 1/8 buggy/truggy I dont have anywhere near the funds needed to do it properly so it looks like I'll be sticking to 1/10 for now.
So my question is what would be the ideal motor for a 1/10 ST? 90% of the time I will be running 6 cell Nimh but I also want to be able to run 12 cells if the need arises (ie if my nitro loving friend is around:wink::mdr:) Ideally I want 30-35 ish mph on 6 cells and something silly on 12 cells (60-70 mph feasable?) Initially the plan was to get a MM5700 but running it safely on 12 cells is a problem. (I will be using the MM esc) How about the Feigao 380c L motors? Rc-Monster has the 6L and also the 8T(is the T a shorter can than the L?) which both look good kv wise. Are these motors any good? The other option is the VXL motor, what are anyones views on it? If this goes ahead (I really want a new truck and I change my mind as to what I want to do daily:oops:) I will get two Ener-g 4600 packs from BoomBoomBatteries Sorry for my random rambling:lol: Thanks |
If a little more money is not an issue, this will be a nice reliable and powerful motor: http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...cn10car&cat=20
You can spin that motor up to 74000RPMs, but with 12 cells you will be in spinning it at around 65000RPMs. |
If you don't want to spend a boatload of money on a motor, the MM 4600 or Velineon motors would work for you. You can gear either of them to get 30-35mph easily and both motors will run on 12cells.

Hello, sorry for the late reply. Well I was all set to get the E-Firestorm and the Bl system but then my friend who races 1/8 nitro came round to my house and after two day driving his Cen Matrix I learnt two things:
1. How much I dislike nitro cars 2. How much I want a 1/8 buggy So to cut a long story short I now have an Xray XB8 TQ coming my way from a guy off Ebay:party: I still don't have enough money to do it properly so it will be running 12 cells, a Mamba Max and probably a Feigao 8XL motor. The reason i was thinking of the 8XL is that I may want to add mechanical brakes in the future and the gearing would need to be higher to allow the brakes to fit. Now the questions: Is a 14t pinion a good place to start for 12 cell Nimh and the 8XL? If I flip the diff around will an XL motor fit where the fuel tank would be? Probably the most important question - can 12 cells push a buggy to reasonable speeds? Thanks alot |
go at least 14cells, umm use the motor brakes with the mm, and just flip the positioning of the motor mount so the motor is wherer the fuel tank was,
12cells is ok, but could be way better 14tooth is a good starting position |
My charger only goes up to 12 cells and I'm not getting a new charger so thats why I'm not going with 14 cells/Lipo.
Does an XL fit where the fuel tank is though? It looks pretty tight. Thanks |
yes, i have a 9xl currently in my Duratrax raze, it fits fine
your getting the RCM mount right? |

Ok thanks. I don't know if I will get the RCM mount right now (due to lack of funds) but the Xray one sure is nice.... I may be using a modified emaxx motor plate or a custom mount to begin with.
Would the 8XL/MM/12 cells cope with being geared 16/46? I added the picture from the auction of the buggy, looks sweet apart from the bodys:grrrrrr: Thanks |
