Tips & tricks for Brushless truggy conversion
Hello!
I'm new here, I'm from Finland so excuse me if my English ain't so good:smile:. I've recently found this forum and I have always been interested in brushless converted 1:8 scale buggies and truggies. So I think it's time for me to get an own one soon (it looks so damn fun!). A truggy interest me more because I'm more a basher than a racer. I've read some old threads on this forum and looked at different Truggy-projects and stuff like that about which truggy I should get etc... I have come to the decision that a Losi 8ight-T is the truggy I want and I get easily parts to it if something breaks. I think I'll go for the RTR version and buy it without motor and engine because the race-roller is a bit too expensive for my wallet. Now to the first question: What's the difference between the 8-T race roller and RTR? What parts should be upgraded on the RTR? It's probably something because almost every RTR cars has some weak points right?? Now to the electronics. I think I wait for the Mamba Monster Max to be released because it will take a while before I buy the truggy (I'm only 16 and have to work in the summer to get cash). I've heard that it will come with a Neu motor, is that correct? Does somebody have a price for it yet? I've heard rumours that the MMM will cost about 300$ with motor. Then, LiPos...I found some Polyquest 4s 5000mAh very cheap on Unitedhobbies for just 160$! That's a steal! Would they work in a truggy or should I go for 5s? If so I need to buy a new charger because the charger I have now only charges 4s (Robbe Powerpeak Sport). And how long can I drive on a 4s 5000mAh LiPo? Damn! That was much! Hope some nice guy have the time to answer my questions:smile:. Thanks! What a great forum! regards Tobbe |
Welcome to the forums. I don't have a 8ight T, so I can't help with that. The price of the MMM is expected to be about $300, but nothing set yet. I expect it will be a bit more than that. That is a good deal on the polyquest batteries, I believe they are enerland cells. For a truggy though (and with the MMM motor) I would go for 5s.

From what I understand, the Race Roller has a machined chassis and shock towers, while the RTR's are just stamped aluminum. Also, the RR has aluminum shock caps, and the RTR has plastic caps. I'm not sure what else is different.

OK, so not some critical parts that should be changed on the RTR version?? Good!
So 5s is the way to go. OK, let's see then because I need a new charger if I go for 5s and a new charger isn't cheap:tongue:. How long could I drive on a 5s 5000mAh LiPo? |
