Charging/balancing question
OK, so I have the Hyperion EOS 5i dp AC/DC charger and the LBA 10net balancer.
The problem is as so. I have 2 Checkpoint 7.4 2S 5400 batteries (see link) http://www.towerhobbies.com/products.../tcpc3656.html I notice that I need a 2S balance plug for my balancer but it wont work with the batteries in question because if I am correct, the batteries have the balance port built into the case!? The Checkpoint balancer will work with my batteries, but will it work with the Hyperion charger? (see link) http://www.towerhobbies.com/products.../tcpp9150.html |
Yes, the team checkpoint balancer will work with your charger. It will just plug into the output pos and neg, and you will set the balancer to Charger-Thru mode.
This will only allow you to charger one battery at a time. The batteries look just like the trak power lipos. I made up a charge/balancing harness to charge my two trakpower packs as a 4s lipo. Basically it has 12gauge cables that go to the pos of the first pack and the neg of the 2nd pack. The a 12 gauge jumper connect the two packs via the other two ports. This make the charger see the 2 packs as a 4s lipo. Then the 5 wires from a hyperion balance tap are connected to the battery. The first and last hook to the pos and neg of the previously mentioned 12 gauge wires. 2mm bullet connectors are soldered to the 2nd and 4th tap wires to go into the center small port on the battery. Lastly the 3rd wire hooks to the 12 gauge bridge made between the batteries. Taht way you hook the tap to the balancer with a 4s adapter and the main leads hook to the large wires on the balancer output. Check out briang's website as it has wiring diagramps for the trakpower lipos, which will work for you. I can post a pic if you need it. |
Ummm yeah. post a pic because i just got really lost :oh:

No prob, it is really obvious when you see it. My description is a bit convoluted.
Are you going to run the packs in series for 4s? Or just use them seperately? |
Actually, I never really thought about it. what is the advantages and disadvantages of running them in series as apposed of not running them like that? This is my first lipo setup. So I guess I just want to make sure I dont torch these batteries at $125.00 each ya know?

So what are you going to run them in?
If you are not going to use them as a matched pair, charge them seperately. If you are going to use them as a pair it is a good idea to charge them as a pair. If just charging seperately the adapter for the checkpoint balancer may be all that you need for the lba balancer, not positive though. |
