Soldering a broken Rx antenna OK?
I sawed my Fasst RX antenna in half after a backflip and lid slide on pavement, chewing all the way thru the antenna tube. The RX works well enough, but the range is only ~75yds. Would soldering the broken end back on mostly cure the problem? I could send it in of repair, but I really can't spare it now, and hate to be out the cash.
Any experiences with this? |
I have done the same thing to my antenna wires, and soldered them back together. They work fine. I have also removed the case and replaced the wire, either way should be ok. Make sure that you do not put too much solder on that the tube will not slide back over the wire!

I've never seen one, but I've heard that the FASST system uses some sort of coax-type wire for the RX? I'd take a close look to see if it truly is or not.

Many 2.4ghz systems do use a dual antenna, in the case of cars it is often similar, as sleebus noted.
Maybe you can try contacting Futaba and asking them if you can pay to have a replacement antenna shipped to you. |
I thought it was a coax too, but after I inspected it it didn't seem so.
It has a grey outer coating, and a silver sheathing below that, but the core is a single multi-strand wire. Perhaps the silver sheathing is part of the coax, but it doesn't seem insulated from the wire core, so IDK. The wire is so thin its a bit hard to tell. It doesn't seem like a cable coax where there is insulation-sheathing-wire-plastic core-core wire (going from out to in.) What would be the purpose of a coax anyway? The antenna is not actually connecting something. not sayingit isn't it, just can't see it. hmmm.... |
