Vista64 support

Question for castle

Is the USB chip different between the castle link and the MM.

The castlelink actually worked on vista 64 as a HID and let me set the voltage on a BEC. The MM does not get recognised...

Will the MMM have an onboard controller or use the link - Now I'm in the link camp :)

Could you program the MM using the Link? I never tried... but wonder if it would work.

Arct1k 03.11.2008 09:04 PM

Never tried - Can't tonight but maybe Joe could answer if he pops in...

MMM is supposed to use the Castlelink, so you should be in good shape.

No it does not work. You have to plug directly into the MM.

I tried last week.

:(

Arg!

Got a new computer.

Runs Vista 64.

Now it won't even let me LOAD the Castle Link program.

:(

I tried from the site, and from the disc, and both times I get a error message:

"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run."

Anyone seen this before?

Any thoughts?

bdebde 04.22.2008 08:34 PM

Got .NET installed? Need to install as admin, and may need to run in compatability mode.

bribeguy 04.22.2008 10:41 PM

To be honest, I have no clue.

:(

I have Vista 32 and I installed Castlelink as an administrator, I dont know if 64 is any different, there were instructions on the CC website

azjc 04.23.2008 03:17 AM

copied directly from CCs website

4. What are the system requirements for the Castle Link to work on a PC? Does it work with Vista?
Castle Link will work on almost any PC running Windows 98 SE through XP. It will not run on Windows 95 or earlier.

Castle Link is not officially supported on Windows Vista at this time, however, some customers have reported getting it to work by using the following method. For those using Windows Vista (32bit only, 64bit will not work), rather than hitting "run" and downloading/running the software, save the install file to your desktop. Right click on the install file that is on the desktop and choose "run as administrator". The Castle Link software should install properly after that.

It wouldn't work on 64 as drivers are different between 64 bit and 32 bit OSs.

Edit: Just read Arct1k's original post and it looks like it doesn't need it's own driver for the castle link. So ignore what I said.

I got the bec to work on vista 64 but not the MM - What are you trying to adjust and I can help,,,

And what about Linux??

My inquiry about that here, some time ago, has not been answered. Too bad.

BTW: Linux rules! Fiyah pon Microsoft

bribeguy 04.25.2008 01:23 PM

Well, I got it installed thanks to azjc's suggestion.

Havent had a chance to try it yet, though.

I'm not overly hopefull..........more so morbidy curious. LOL.

I have a bunch of CC stuff........BEC's, MM's, Sidewinders, Mamba's, blah blah blah, so it'd be nice to just be able to pulg 'em in again.

God I hate Vista..................it was bad enough that Reflex XTR wouldn't run anymore.........

It's not Vista that's really the problem. Vista was distributed with .NET 2.0 as the base .NET framework.

You need .NET 1.1 for the CastleLink software to work.

Install the Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

It fixed all the problem i was having initially wth Vista and Castle software. I don't have a Vista64 pc, so I do hope it resolve Vista64 problems the same way it resolved Vista32 problems.
