Couple Noob AX10 questions

Thinking about doing a build of an AX10 - mainly for goofing off, not competition - got a couple of questions:

1 - I have access to either a MM already wired up with a BEC or a standard sidewinder. Both with latest firmware. I know either would work, but would one be better in a brushless setup? I "assume" the MM would be, especially since it has the CC ext BEC, but the sidewinder is no slouch.

2 - I need a brushless motor that works with the standard motor plate. I'm not sure if the JRH Crawlmasters would work or not. If so, what Kv with 3s lipo? 1000? Could I use on of the Goat motors or another in runner option??

Thanks!

Steve

I had the MM with a 55T brushed motor in my AX-10 and it worked like a champ. If you're going to be doing any competitions, most people around here (from what I've seen) prefer brushless for bashing and brushed for comps.

JRH's Crawlmasters are quite popular in the AX-10. Just PM him and he's very good about giving you great recommendations as he has tried just about everything it seems.

The Sidewinder works well in the crawler, but the drag brake isn't as strong for holding you on a descent. (It's 10% less due to the lesser electrical components per Joe Ford.)

I've actually taken both out for other vehicles and now I'm using the Novak Rooster Crawler edition. For my purposes, it works just as well. The only drawback is that it's limited to 2s lipo. Has a great built in BEC though!

Good luck!

Well I went ahead and picked up a goat combo with the truck. The LHS gave me a pretty good package price of $400 all in so I went for it. I think it will be okay for my goofing off intentions... I'm starting the build this weekend, but its my wedding anniversary so I doubt I'll get too far :-)

I'll be putting a Sidewinder w/Axi outrunner in my AX-10 very soon. I just have to get off my butt and solder some stuff up.
