wanna know what sucks?
i've heard of these having problems, but i didn't see it. i have the mgm16018 and a 3pks 2.4 fasst radio system. it worked completely fine in my emaxx, but one time i tried to get into programing mode, and it did want to do it, so i left my old settings. other wise it worked perfectly fine. now i moved the system over to my lsp and it won't link up. i had to fight with it last night for about 10min to get it to work, but in the end it finially did, and i thought at that point it was behind me. well, it won't do it again. the esc acts like it doesn't see a signal. just a constant beep....beep....beep for as long as i try. i can't get any responce, or into any programming. move it to a am radio i have and it works instantly. there has to be an answer to this issue.
anybody know any tricks? |
I've run into the same problem. As a matter of fact, I was frustrated last night and couldn't get it to program so I could use the Li-saver. I must have tried it a dozen times to no avail.
I called Mike today and tried it on the phone. He never told me to do anything, I was just doing it as I was talking to him and what happens? It worked. Freakin' $#%^&$# POS, not only frustrates me but makes me look like a fool. You can bet your azz that AS SOON as the MMM is released, I'll be on that boat. Mark |
i'm about thinking the same. i may ebay this dude, or put it away for a basher using am radio gear.

just to know my setup, it worked fine with a 2pole kb45xl using the same ds8411 digital servo in the maxx. no its hooked up to a hacker 50L (not sure of pole maybe 4) and thats the only difference. everything else was simply moved over from the other truck. it worked everytime before. i've messed with the wire alot, and even hooked up a ccbec after pulling the red off the esc plug. no change.
what setup are you using? |
:yipi:
switched my radio over to PPM modulation and it binds with the controller. i'll try it a few times through out the day to make sure it does it everytime. if it works out, maybe a sticky for future users. |

I had issues like that with my MGM 16016 before. It didn't program properly with my DX3 radio. I just use it with my 3PM-FM and all is well.
|
it works prefectly fine in the setting i listed above. goes into programming mode as it should and everything. i've disconnected and reconnected and drove the truck over 10 time and all works prefectly like it should. i have a feeling that everyone seeing these issues will over come them by going to ppm on their radios. i'm not sure what the dx3r runs or what your options are, but you may want to look into it and compair to futuba's ppm.
|
The DX3 was kinda wierd in that it seemed to skip a step when I went through the programming tree. I could only "enter" 9 times although there are 11 stops in the tree... The 3PM is an FM radio. It has great range so long as the batteries are near full, and not much interference at all where I run.

Have you tried a rx pack to get the radio system up and going before you plug the esc up?
By the time the receivers find the tx and such it is past the esc point. Things i learned from spectrum. |
Ya, if you are using a spektrum system be aware, that once you turn on the TX then RX it usually takes 1-2 seconds to communicate. This is usually the time you need to get into programming mode, or radio set-up. The best way around this is to use a RX battery.
Castle has now addressed this issue in there software update by allowing a delay in the ESC to allow 2.4Ghz users the time needed to get to programming mode. All ESC manufacturese need to do this, I beleive I had the same issues with a Novak a while back. |
mgm's do the same i'm pretty sure. mine will just set if i forget to turn on the radio first, then connects instantly after i do turn it on. i don't think a reciever pack will change anything, except initial setup and to enter programming with the radio.

If you don't get into the programming mode the normal way (after 10 secs full throttle), sometimes the problem is in the channel reverse.
Check if it enters programming mode with full brake applied for 10 secs. If yes, then reverse channel 2 from your transmitter (and change the motor wiring if you have driven your car normally before...). Yup, I know - fell for that one too. Scratched my head couple of times before realizing the problem... |
