Monster Pro 125

I am noob to the brushless world and I just wanted to make sure I am understanding something correctly..

A Monster Pro 125 specs are
Continuous - 125amps (@Full throttle, 25deg C
Surge - 300amps (@10 Seconds)

A maxamps 8000mah lipo is

20C Constant(160 amps)
30C Sustained(240 amps)
50C Burst(400 amps)

So you couldn't use this battery with that controller??

Is there a website that goes through the genral brushless guidlines and abreviations?? I have picked up a lot from here but a total noob when it comes to this stuff..

It should be great but depends on volatge of the lipo 4/5/6s, the motor and the truck you are running it in - you will get big amp spikes but they are normally short lived...

Just go Play 03.19.2008 12:48 PM

It is ok (and generally preferred) that the batteries amp rating exceeds that of the ESC's, the batteries voltage should not. So no more then 6s lipo should be used with that controller.

A Battery will only output the amount of amperage its asked for. Your controller is the dertming factor of how many amps the entire system can handle. The piece you need to pay attention to is the motor and how many amps it will draw at the speed you run it at. The higher the load the more amperage you need. What are you planning on running these in?

I was going to run them in a savage X with a 7xl motor and either a CC phoenix controller or Monster pro with a 8000maH

the motor will draw 110 and the controller is 120 so I should be fine?

The amp draw on the motor is what's important. Just because a battery has a high amp rating does not mean it will just automatically pump that amount of amperage into the controller. The battery will only put out what the ESC demands of it. I really doubt those maxamps packs do their rated specs anyway. You should be fine with a 7xl on 125b, so long as you watch the temps. They like to run hot.

MaxxAmps packs specs should be taking with a grain of salt......

You need to understand that the motor's rating DOES NOT in ANY way mean that's what it will be actually doing. It's only a general mfg rating of what the motor can handle without a meltdown. Same thing with the battery... it's only a mfg estimate of the max loads it can do. There is no such thing as a battery or speedo with too good/too high of a rating.

You do want a good matched system so everything works well, but it's not as simple as trying to match mfg. ratings.

In actual use, the motor will average less than 50 amps... and .1 second spikes in the 100-150 amp range.

By the numbers, neither the speedo or battery can really handle what the ratings are anyway.

And one of their RMA forms when puffing occures. They should put that on the label!

You will be able to get about 100 amps cont out of that battery. If you are running a 7xl on 4s in a savage, try and keep it light. If you are going over 4s then you will want to go to a 9xl, or a 10xl. I would say that a 9xl on 5s lipo (go with flightpower lipos) and the monster pro. That would be a good setup. You could use the 4900 25c flightpower 5s lipo.
