Spring rates, I want better then stock.
I've got a new 3905 E-Maxx with a Ammo 36-56-2600 motor w/ single motor mount/cover, MambaMax esc & Losi DSM radio, everything else is stock.
I am not happy with the stock springs and want stiffer ones. My question is what is the stock spring rate? I had a combo of 4 stock and 4 Proline two piece progressive springs off the Powerline shocks on my old E-Maxx and loved it. Can i just get RCBROS/RCRaven progressive springs and be happy or should I get a stiffer spring? I could drop my old fully RTR E-Maxx from 3ft and it barely bottomed out. I do it to my 3905 and it slaps hard. Also what weight oil are you all using to get more wheelies and smooth things out? I understand that 50 weight would smooth things out some and let it wheelie better. |
RC raven/ fullforce RC are probably the best spring for standard maxx size shocks. I had many springs but stayed with fullforce rc ones till I went to supershocks

I'm running a set of 8 Ofna 9.5 front shocks with the stock Ofna springs and oil. They are light years better than the Traxxas shocks and essentially the same thing that UE sells in sets of 4 for $72. I've had my set of 8 for about 3 years. They can take some serious abuse and big hits. I swapped them off my old e-maxx on to my new 3905 and not one needed a rebuild. Here is a link to a pair. They are on ebay all the time pretty cheap. Be sure to get the upper bushings with them.

I have 4 RC Raven dual rates on the rear and 2 on the front and like it alot better. I haven't changed the shock oil yet, will probably go 40 in front and 45-50 in the rear.
I'm also running a MM with a single BL(Medusa 36-50-3300V2) on a 5s2p A123 pack. I had no problems with getting wheelies reguardless the suspension setup. Those Ofna 9.5 shocks look very nice! I have Big Bores on my T so was thinking of sticking with them on the E, just for less spares to keep on hand. Not so sure now! |

Motor gets up around 120f with 14t/65t gears. It's not crazy powerful only about 1100watts. Over all this motor is undersized for this app. the 36-60 Medusa's would be better suited but I didn't feel they have a high enough kv for 5s A123.
