I have been thinking about ordering a pair of these for my project, what gear ratios would be the better choice, (buggy 13/43), or truggy (10/43) not a racing setup but mostly bashing at vacant construction sites

Direct drive - truggy works best most of the time. If you have a tranny(like an emaxx), the buggy is the common choice. :)

I have the buggy diffs in my truggy and it is working good.
