new to the site...VXL question

Hello. I'm running a rustler VXL with a few upgrades and looking for alittle more power. I'm using a 3S 4000mah lipo. What motor do you suggest? I'm not looking to break speed records or anything just alittle more power, run cooler and one that will work with the stock speed control. Thanks.

The vxl speed control is only rated to 3C, based on that, I don't know what you can get that would run 3C well? there might be a fiego (they run hot), could even try a Novak 6.5 (if it will work with your speed control).
Essentiall, I can't answer this question properly, but I tried anyhow. Have you tried searching the forum? there have been some posts on the traxxas brushless systems, might be something useful.

More power and run cooler? I'm assuming you are looking for more torque. A couple of things you can do without changing motor at all would be to change your gearing. Use a smaller pinion. It may help with heat and power all in one. If you are using a stock radio, try a aftermarket, the response is a ton better than the TX radio it comes with.

Other than that, your best choice would be to use the MM systems for cost effeciency IMO. Go with a 4600 system, or even 5700 would be nice. Unless you are looking to change to something expensive, you can go witha Neu/MM set up as well. Not sure which motor unfortunately.

I would say go to a mega motor, something around 3000kv in the 22/30 series. This motor is more effecient than the traxxas motor and should work well with the vxl speed control.

go for a 380c they have a built in heattsink and are very nice motors

I have a VXL Rustler and the best thing that happened to me was when I had a wipeout causing one of the leads to the motor to become disconnected, and this "forced" me to upgrade the stock ESC to a MM..., I have since installed a UBEC and this enabled me to increase the battery to a 4 cell, and then I went to a Feigao 9L motor (2700kv) and gear up a little. With my setup the ESC runs a lot cooler than the stock , and the motor a fair amount cooler

Who makes the mega motor? What about 380c? Really sorry I don't know much about brushless. I picked up a Himax3618 4500 for cheap a day ago. I figure it's not as good as the stock but I wanted a back up. Would the mega motor or 380c be motors that I could grow into...say later on I go to a 4S? Thanks again very much appreciated.

MegaMotors makes the mega motor.. here

And Feigao makes the 380C
