G3R motor recommendations

I've got a g3r with an e-maxx tranny, 14 cells, revo talon tires and 18~24/66 gearing options.
I want to replace my hv maxx 6.5 system with a mamba max and neu motor.
Will Neu 1515/1y be fine?
What is the best motor for my setup?
Please give me some recommendations about the motor selection.

The 1515/1y would work perfectly in your G3R.

That's what I went with on mine. 1515 1y w/ MM esc on 4s lipos. It runs great. I did convert my tranny to use the revo slipper clutch. It allows for some differnt gearing for me. I've mainly been running the Jato spur 54t mainly with a 26t pinion or the 22t. If you go that way you mike want to do the conversion. The revo slipper has held up to the NEU pretty well. I know I would of had some problems with the old e-maxx slipper.

It seems my gearing 24/68 are not enough for the motor.
Would anything bad happen if I stick with the gearing 24/68?
This is the highest(or lowest)gearing that I can run my truck with.
If I go with lipo battery, what capacity and discharge rate would you suggest?

I'm not the best when I comes to gearing. I tried a similar spur/pinion that you have when I first got my NEU. It just didn't do it justice. I do not think it will hurt it to run it that way. The NEU is a great motor and well I expected more from it then the 66/22 I was running on it. Once I did the mod to the tranny and got some Jato spurs it was more to what I expected. I didn't know what to expect really. I now know that the efficiency of the motor is important. Not just how fast it went. Here's a link to a thread in the brushless forum about the tranny mod. It is really easy to do and not real expensive. You will be needing some 5mm pinions unless you already have some. It is a good mod to do. Not sure what you are running for your slipper but the revo spec holds up real well. Not like the stock e-maxx with the slipper pegs. THat worked okay for a stock setup but you'll be needed a better slipper setup with the upgrade you have planned. I was told to get a pinion and use the spurs to make adjustments. I run a Jato spur 54t and use a 26t pinion. It fits what I like to do. Tell it's just nice not being limited to the novak gear ratio. FREEDOM.

As far as lipo batteries. There are a lot of them out there, but I would get the best you could afford. If you skimp to save money it comes back to bite you later. I found that out. I haven't bought any in a while. I've read that most of guys are getting them in the 25c-30c. Hopefully someone will jump in give you some better advice on which ones to look into. I bought mine over 6months ago. I have like (6) 2s 6000mah and they do me fine. Nice thing about this forum that If I give some bad advice. Someone will read it and set it right. I don't think this is bad advice but not onto of the lipos. So I would say for a min on the discharge of 25c (maybe 20c) and no lower then 6000mah.

Since you will use the mm, and you have the g-maxx chassis, a pair of trakpower packs will be your best bet. Wires them in series for 4s total. They will power the neu motor just fine.

Modding the slipper is a good idea too. I have the revo spec unit on my old emaxx and it works just fine with alot of power.

I have just ordered MaxAmp 6000mah Lipos. These are my first so I can't give you any advice on them but their customer service is excellent and the price was good compared to everyone else. The discharge rating is only 20C but that will still give me 120 amps with these packs and for the price I can't beat it. I paid less for these than most other 4000mah 25C packs which won't offer as much current ( only 100amps) and not as much runtime. The MaxAmp membership is a nice way of saving $ to, all they ask is that you spread the word and thats what I'm doing! Mine should be here monday or tuesday so I'll post my results after I run them

Thanks guys.
As for the slipper mod and due to intending to keep the 1st gear of E maxx tranny, I would first try to tighten the stock slipper all the way. If that does not work well, then I will replace the 12 friction pegs with steel balls. I think Revo spec slipper mod is my last option because I am not trying to give up the 1st gear in the tranny now.

Good luck with those lipos. They will not provide 120 amps, a pair of trakpower packs will easily outperform them. And they are only 10 bucks more expensive per pack. I have owned both and sold the maxamps. In fact I have owned about $3000 worth of maxamps lipos and sold all of them after buying the trakpower packs.

Maxamps have good advertising, their product is not that great. I would suggest not to recommend a product based on the company's customer service. They want you to spread the word, well I am, and it is not as good as they say. I will agree that their customer service is good. They replaced every pack that puffed, which was almost all of the ones I had. I would rather have had a pack that stayed together while sitting, and did what the sticker said.

Their ratings are bogus, the batteies are 15c on a good day, most likely more like 12c if you factor voltage drop into the equation. Plus their prices are not good, when you consider the lack of performance.

Go with a pack made of enerland cells. Polyquest, polyrc, neuenergy, or flightpower/trakpower are the way to go. They hold their voltage under load, and are properly matched, unlike maxamps cells. I could go on, but maxamps stuff is overrated.

You can use the new emaxx tranny's input shaft, and retain 1st and 2nd gear in the old tranny. The new shaft is setup for the revo slipper. Someone here did a writeup on how to do it. You may have to post a thread asking for a link. Don't waste time on the old slipper, it sucks, and nothing really helps it.
