Blew my 7xl... Now what?
So i took out the maxx today for a little spin on the wet asphalt, and I thought I had stripped out a gear, but apparently blew my motor. Whenever a i give it any throttle, it makes a horrible noise while its spinning and the shaft pushes out of the motor a little :surprised:. The endbell has already come off this motor and was jb welded back on so I'm not considering it a huge loss (was gonna replace it eventually anyway).
My question is, what would a good step up replacement motor be? I'm planning on converting a revo this summer and switching the maxx back to stock for a wet weather toy, so i want a motor that would suit the revo better than a maxx really. I was looking at a Neu 1515 1y, but would rather spend a little less than that if there are other good alternatives out there. Also, would a 1521 be complete overkill since its only $20 more if i do go with a neu? Also, I would need to be able to run it on my MM/4s for now. I'll upgrade the esc and go 5s or 6s this summer most likely unless I just decide that I don't need anymore power :mdr:. I was thinking about a Turnigy Sentilon100A HV 2-12S. There was a thread where it was being talked about, and they seemed to think it was a good controller for use with mech brakes (especially for the money). Sorry for the long post and scattered thoughts. Just wanted to get some opinions. Thanks! |
The 1521 would be overkill IMO, but still good. I would use some kind of punch control or something to take the monstrous torque that thing is capable of! The 1515 would be a better match IMO, or even a 1512.
The Turnigy is a very cheap alternative, but it has some kind of slow ramp-up that some don't like. But yeah, you need mech brakes with that ESC, and you don't get reverse either. |
Go Outrunner :d

Brian, what would you recomend for an esc? I'm pretty budgeted on this build, but I would rather pay for quality than have something I would be unhappy with.

Wait for the MMM only 2-3 more weeks we hope and a 1515 2.5D... That's my plan

If you set the throttle trim forward (using the PiStix).. the delay can be eliminated with the Turnigy ESC.. I just found this out last week... just played around with it for a bit... but I haven't tried that Turnigy with a neu yet...
The Revo with a 1521 sounds great... :) |

Regarding the length, that is a good point. I hadn't even thought of that. I think I know the answer already, but is there any way to retain mechanical brakes with a 3905 tranmission swap? I haven't gotten a revo roller yet so I cant see how all that works (only ever had electric also). If it was possible though, I'd think that should pretty much solve the length issue by getting the motor away from the arms... But I guess it would just be easier going with a more expensive esc than doing this also. |
