1515 1.5d in an 8ight

What do you think about running a 1515 1.5d in a buggy? I will be running 4s and 5s. What gearing do you recommend?

Happywing 04.04.2008 06:11 PM

I think it will work just fine. It's kind of big for a buggy, but it'll work. Geared 11/46 on 4s should work good.

ilpufxit 04.04.2008 07:34 PM

Too big?

I run a 1512 2.5d in my 8ight on 5s. Jaw dropping fast. Runs over 35 min on a 4000 mah pack and never gets hot. Geared 14/46.

I'm not sure what that has to do with the question. The 1512 is smaller and better suited for a buggy than the 1515, so that all makes sense. A 35 minute run on a 4k pack doesn't, but that's probably not under race conditions.

35mins with a 5s 4k pack is not unheard of. He is running about 40mph top speed. Most likely not raceing it though.

I'm just mentioning a setup I'm really happy with. I have to admit I'm still trying get my little brain around Neu's designations.

This is a reminder... :rules: please include the kv specs of whatever motor you are asking questions about. It makes it easier for everyone who responds, so we don't all have to dig and find the kv.

FWIW, I normally keep a tab open to Neu's site and link to Feigao specs because I can't memorize specs of every motor.

I'm sorry

The Neu 1515 1.5d is a 2700kv motor. I'm have a 12t, 14t, and 16t pinion and the spur is 48t.

SpEEdyBL 04.06.2008 08:34 PM

I think you would be better of with a 1512 1Y. It has the same kv as the 1515 1.5D, but it will not pull as much current.

glassdoctor 04.06.2008 08:40 PM

I've run a 1515 in my buggy and it seems to do just fine. Runtime and temps are very good. Mine is only 1700kv btw and I would race with a 46 spur and 14-16 pinions.

Gearing really depends on what you are doing... but I would guess 10-12t is where to be for racing. It should be fast with the 12 and just ballistic with the bigger gears, although it should not have any problem with pulling that gearing if the batts can handle it.

Batteries

The batteries I will be running are polyquest 4s 6000 mah and polyquest 5s 5000 mah. I hope these will do the job. :mdr:

5s will crank that motor for sure lol

Happywing 04.08.2008 07:35 AM

You're not going to like the 5s unless you're traveling in a straight line. That's way to much for racing. Fun for bashing, I guess.

This may not be relevent, but i run a feigo 8xl with a 5s 6000mah on my revo and get 30 minute run times and i drive the HEdoublehockeysticks out of it:surprised:

IMHO I think 5S is too much for that motor in a buggy. You're talking ~47000rpm, which the motor can do, but you'll be way past the efficiency range and there will be a lot of AMP draw getting it up to speed.
