Rc8

Hi all!
I just ordered my RC8 conversion stuff. I a pretty excited here is what I got so far.
Neu 1512 2D/F
RC-Monster Mount
RC-Monster Battery Tray
RC-Monster motor end cover.

I am waiting on a 4s 5000mah polyquest battery and a Hyperion DUO charger and CC BEC.

I am also trying to decide if I should just order the MM or wait a couple more weeks for the MMM???

What gearing should I be looking at with this setup I would like to keep the top speed down to around 45-48mph .
Do you think I need to dremel the fins slightly to give me a larger range of gearing options??
Thanks!

If you think you are sticking at 4S and with a buggy a MM / UBEC and extra Cap will work fine... However new this will set you back 115+20+10=145 a MMM is due (fingers x'd) EOM and should be 180-200ish and you won't need the BEC/Cap...

The Duo's pretty pricey maybe easier just to get a smaller charger - ATB

Not a problem on the price of the MM but is there any info on putting the extra cap on it?? also If I recall isnt there someone on here that will mod them for you??
THanks!

Also do you think I am better off gettin the Hyperion EOS 610i NET charger. I really just want something that will be able to charge as quickly a s possible

Arct1k 04.04.2008 05:22 PM

You have a 5000mah battery at 1c thats 5amps a EOS5i at $50 would do the job...

A bigger charger won't help... I would look at a 606i

gixxer 04.05.2008 10:44 AM

The 606i is limited to 50watts. I believe the eos5i is also only 50watts. If you are using 4s I would stick with the 610.

I have the 610i and it works great. Excellent charger.

dan1942 04.05.2008 11:23 AM

Yeah I am prob going to get the 0610i DUO because I am probably going to pick up more then one Lipo..
What about the gearing where should I start??
Thanks!

Well, if I recall with the RC Monster motor mount I think a 15T pinion is the smallest without mods you can do. For me, with a 2.5D motor it appears a 17T pinion is a starting point, going to a range of about 19 - 20T pinion. I would say for you, maybe start with a 16T pinion to start with.

If you are set on ordering a Mamba Max now, Let me know, I have one that has the RC Monster UBEC (the white one) on it already installed and a 12V fan installed too that is much more durable than the novak one that I could be interested in selling.

I think the motor would hit the rear brace before the motor mount bottomed out.

pipeous 04.05.2008 04:41 PM

I am running the 2.5D on 4s and stock 16/44 gearing. I dremmeled a couple fins off to allow clearance of the chassis brace. I wouldn't want to go lower gearing. after 1/10 scale electric racing we ripped my buggy around a tight track and the torque is great. if anything I'd like to gear up some for the bigger tracks but everyone that has driven it, and I have handed the controller to a lot of drivers now, just love how smooth and easy it is to drive. I changed the difs to 5k all the way and I found it helped bring the back around better for corners. I might thicken the center dif a little more next time but this setup is sure nice to drive. you'll find the RC8 very forgiving. best description I heard was it floats along like a cadillac. easy to correct in the air, even landing a jump on one wheel it seems to come down and be ready for throttle as soon as the wheels touch. I haven't done much to the stock setup at all other than difs.

Thanks Everyone for your help!! I cant wait to get everything purchased and installed :mdr:
@Cain I am thinking since I am so close to the release of the MMM I should probably just wait. I still have to order so much more stuff but I am hopping to get it done by the end of the month or early may.

The RC-Monster mount itself doesn't limit the gearing - it will accept down to an 12t for sure (probably 10 or 11) all the way up to a 25t - all our mounts are designed with this capability with the stock spur gears(designed for 12-25t with some "fat" in the adjustment). The limiting factor would be the motor diameter, as well as other items on the car(such as the rear chassis brace on the RC8 in particular, as Bomb-proof pointed out). FYI :)

Question for you guys. How much does the center diff. help out with tuning? I would like to try direct drive but am not sure how much handeling I would lose.

I have one set up right now buts it a little slow and I am waiting on a larger kv motor. Goes about 30 I'd guess.

Bomb-Proof 04.13.2008 10:24 PM

It helps, but I can drive em either way honestly. It makes it alot less touchy on slick tracks to me (with diff)
