Oiling motor bearings

My 8ight thermalled last night. It normally won't even get hot. I'm running a Neu 1512 2.5 d/f on 5s. Quark 80b. 14/46. It seemed to be hard to roll even with the power off. When I pulled out the motor to see what was tight, it was the armature. Not really tight but enough so I could tell there was more drag than magnetic resistance turning the pinion by hand. I applied some bearing oil to both ends of the shaft and after a little spinning it seems much more free, still notchy from the magnets but no more drag.

So, my question is, should I normally expect to have to oil those bearings and if so, how often?

I put just a dab every 5 runs or so. Clean them, dab them.

I put a drop, once a month... and let sit for a day... for absorbtion.. and then wipe off the excess oil.. I use the prolong precision oil... and it's been working for me..

Some manufacturers say do not lube motor, I know the instructions with my Plettenberg Big Max said that.

I know my bigmaxx had play on the bearings after 4 dumps of the 16 cells nimh packs!

you haven't moved to Lipos yet Serum...

only one feigao failed on me.. but that was because the motor popped a bit and I keep on running it.. of course I did not know of this till after....

This was a year or 4 back when this happened.

So i emailed plettenberg about it, but the bearings are no part of the warranty.. (understandable)
