Revo tranny
I've read brian's post, but didn't find the exact answer I was looking for. I was wondering, if I lock the transmission in second (plan on doing it today), is it possible to use mechanical brakes and reverse? I would like to do this to keep as much work off the motor and esc as possible to keep it cool (summer is coming and it's hot down here).
I cant figure out a way, but I'm new at things like this. I had originally thought to try to mix the 3rd channel of my FASST for the mechanical brake and set the mm to use forward/brake/reverse and set the brake curve down to nothing, but then realized that when trying to use reverse the brake would be clamped so that idea is out. I'm just waiting on all my pieces to get in to put it together and was just curious to see if anyone has managed to do this. I'm new to converted nitros so sorry if this is a dumb question. |
I can only see two options:
If the FOC is installed and 2nd gear is locked: Disable braking in the ESC and use ch3 (not channel mixing) for the brake servo. But that wouldn't be intuitive IMO. Plus, if you forget which control to use for braking during running, activating the normal throttle-channel brake would instead slam it into reverse. Not good. Or, retain the machanical reverse mechanism. Disable reverse and brakes in the ESC. The downside to this is that the reverse system is pretty weak, and you'll need two servos; one for the brakes and one to activate reverse. |
So my best option is to just use the motor for braking/reverse duty and just keep an eye on the temps?

Unfortunately, yes. What setup are you planning to use (voltage, ESC, motor)? I use motor brakes and reverse in my Revo and don't have any temp issues...

I had the same idea, and could only figure out one way to do this. It would invole 2 different mixes, that were selected by a switch of some sort. Not sure what radio would be required to do this.
The esc would be set up for forward and reverse, with no braking, on channel 2. Mech brakes would be on channel 3. First mix would be for forward and brake. Ch 2 would be set for neutral to full forward, and ch 3 would be set from neutral to full reverse/brake. This would give forward and brake. 2nd mix would then reverse to previous setting, so ch3 would provide braking from neutral to full forward, and ch2 would provide reverse from neutral to full reverse. The 2nd mix could also be setup to mimic what a nitro vehicle has when using a mech reverse. You switch it into reverse with the 3rd channel switch, and use the throttle control to move the truck. I would prefer to have it as shown above. Like I said, I am not sure if there is a radio that would allow this kind of selectable mix, but I am sure that a stick radio for a air/heli could do it |

Bringing back my dead topic . I was just wondering if the mix that lincpimp was talking about could be performed with the futaba 3pm fasst? I don't really understand all of the functions it has so I was curious if it is possible.

Hello,
I'm quite interested in this too. I'm building an E-Revo with 9XL, MMM, 4S 8000 Lipo. The tranny is already locked into 2nd gear (FOC also), and I'm planning to use mechanical brakes. I was told I could split the 2nd channel between the esc and brake servo, and program the esc to do nothing when I brake. Is that possible? Thanks for any info, Loa |
