Loose motor mount
 

So I finally got my revo put together and try to run, and twice the motor has moved a little and fried my spur gear.

Has anyone else had this this problem. The mount seems great (Thanks Mike!) but I just can't seem to get it tight enought. Do I just need to man up or put more threadlock or what?

Yeah I would suggest using some locktite. You can never go wrong :)

I did. I used the blue loctite in pretty generous amounts I thought. It still shifted as soon as I gave it any throttle.

I have a bottle of red locktite 569. It is extremely strong and I dont use it for that reason but if you seriously having a problem maybe you should look into trying some of that. I wouldn't suggest it for like wheel nuts or common pieces you would need to replace.

I actually stripped the thread in the mount, not exactly sure how, but my guess is from over tightening the 3 screws in the front of the mount. Possibly, that is what happened on your mount. But I replaced the bottom part of the mount, put lock tight on the screws and it is working perfectly for me.

Well, yesterday I completely stripped down the chassis, cleaned it, stripped the annodizing, polished it up with some aluminum polish (pretty :love:), put it all back together, loctited the hell out of it, screwed everything down tight (stripped a hole out of the motor way too easily), and let it sit overnight just to make sure the loctite was dry.

Took it out this morning to try it and stripped the spur. This spur was kinda messed up already so I'm going to try to pick up a new one sometime (cant this weekend though) and see if it works. Also, I put the chassis brace back on thinking maybe this could stop some flex if that is possibly the problem (haven't been jumping but I'm running out of ideas). Hopefully this will work but i'm kinda doubting it seeing how quick it stripped the spur this morning.

Does anyone else have any ideas? Possibly a steel spur?

Also, the little shaft that the wheel is bolted on to that comes out of the axel carrier (can't think of the name right now) snapped off leaving me with a 3-wheel revo :grrrrrr:. I didn't even hit anything! I jumped off a curb at ~15-20 mph and my wheel just falls off.

I had an issue where the three screws (the ones that hold the front of the mount to the lower part) bent. This made the front of the mount loose and I could wiggle it thereby stripping spurs. Since then, I put in three new screws and JBWelded the inner corner to provide a bit more support. Haven't had a problem since.

Brian, I just checked and it wasn't wobbling there, plus the screws weren't bent as of last night. Everything seems really tight. Once before, I had been able to move the mount with my hand, but I couldn't see what was loose. It was shifting just enough to get the mesh off. Today, it doesn't seem to be moving at all. Hopefully, the gear I stripped this morning was just the fault of the gear (it was slightly worn already).

the shaft that you lost is called the axle stub, and instead of breaking you could have lost the pin that keeps the axle stub connected to the driveline, if it did break than you will need to replace the driveline

Thanks! I had a brain fart for a little while. It definately broke just a few mm past the pin that keeps the wheel adapters from spinning. I was afraid I'd have to replace the entire thing. I looked on the parts list and didn't see one by itself. This is about to become more trouble than its worth. I just want to play with my truck!:lol:
