Neu motor Ratings
Is their a chart or something of the sort that tells what the 1y and 2d and all the other ratings mean?
|
All the motor specs do mean something. For example, let's take a 1521 1.5d/f motor.
15 - Relates to the rotor diameter. May be the diameter of the rotor in mm, but not sure. 21 - Relates to the rotor or motor length. Larger numbers means a longer motor. 1.5 - The number of turns d - The coil configuration: d=delta/triangle. y=wye/star f - f=finned can. No value means smooth can (no fins) Neu's website lists all the specs for the various motors, or you could use the chart at my site to make it easier to compare against other manufacturers motors. |

Wye winds generate generate more torque, but at a slower kv rate, delta winds generate more speed, at a lower torque (or the other way around). Not sure on the exact numbers though (its posted in various old threads dotted around this place)...
|
Sometimes, changing coil configurations is just an easy way to get different kv ratings.
You can ideally only have turn counts in multiples of 0.5 (1.5 turns, 2 turns, 2.5 turns, 3 turns, etc). If you use only delta, you are kinda limited in kv selection. Since wye kv is 1.73 times higher than the same number of turns in a delta config, you get more kv selections with the same turn counts. |
I think the first 15 means 1.5" diameter stator, and the 21 means 2.1" long rotor.
