Cant keep the front end down
Hi guys as you know i have a DEVO:L: , I ran it for the first time it is sick. But the front end wont stay down. It has a 9L on 14cells, with a strobe slipper with sprong. I'm using a 12t pinion as recomended by other members. I'm thinking if i go to a bigger pinion do you guys think this will help keep the front end down ?. Daf, serum, mike ?.

The 12 tooth is about perfect for your setup, I would imagine. Going up a tooth may be alright, and would help keep the front end down, but only a little bit! 14 good cell will lift the front end almost no matter the gearing-at the expense of your electronics! If the temps are pretty safe, you could gear it up a tooth at a time to see how you like it. You could also back out the slipper and adjust the acceleration curve(on your radio, or on the controller itself if you have the programming cable and software).

I'm using the strobe sprong. I think it might be adjusted to tight & making the front end lift. It grabs alot more know than when using the stock spring. How do tight do you recomend adjusting the sprong with out melting the pads ?.

Well, if you dial in slip, the pads are gonna wear for sure. It doesn't take a lot of pressure with the sprong to get traction on the slipper pads(as you may have noticed). Snug it up(snug-not TIGHT) and make very small adjustments to get it where you like it.

Ja, I agree with Mike. 12/51 should be very close to the sweet spot of your setup. Whenever you change gearing, keep an eye on the temps. If you loosen the slipper, listen for excessive slipage and you may also want to feel the slipper for heat.
The acceleration curve is a nice option, worth a look. I myself like the stock setup the best (0.21s, I think, for my 7XL) I like the full controll feeling. Do you have the data-cable for your Warrior? Another option, as always, is to controll your throttle finger:D I never had problems with wheelies on my Maxx and Revo. It's all a matter of how you drive. Our systems somtimes simply have too much power, too fast acceleration, so you have to tame it one way or the other. Good Luck DAF |
I'm going to race it for the first time this coming saturday at the state race in daytona. I'll have to race UMT as long as i dont make the A or B main i should i can make runtime LOL !!!.
DAF I have a tendency to pull the thrigger real hard LOL!!!. All this wheeling was happening when i was on the street & usin proline road rage tires (awsome traction) from those tires maybe that was the problem. Maybe i can change the EPA adj for the throtle on my M8 if the problem continues. |
I see! Good Luck! I guess on dirt you'll do better. I also have some PL 40 Roadrages, and know what you're talink about. (the lowest position of the pushrods really helped me)
Mike, on the subject of wear on the strobe pads: If you have a bit of slip, will they last a while? Do you have to change those pads often? (compared to those Traxxas pegs) |
To prevent wheelies, make your truck as low as possible (use some sence here, for offroad)
@dafni, the strobes have got a much larger contact area and are made of pretty tough material, you can also get them in a few types.. |
Ja, I know Serum. I just received my first Strobe, with those stock brownish pads. (and if you know me, you can guess I had to get a spare set of pads and a spare spur)

I only sell the high temp pads, which can take some abuse before needing to be changed. If you aren't in a constant state of slip, they last for a little while-longer than the traxxas pegs if you had slip dialed in to them (and way longer than the spur gear with slipping traxxas pegs!). As the pads wear, the adjustment will need to change, obviously.
