Unbalanced tires?
 

Hey guys.... I got my Revo up and running after a long winter, runs great... except that the tires are way out of balance for some reason?! Both my RD Logic porcupines, and Badlands. I'm thinking that running full throttle through the snow had something to do with this. But I have checked for water in the tires, and the foam inside feels even. I am having troubles with the 6mm lock nuts coming off and the tire flies off because of this (from vibration). I doesn't seem to affect handling a whole heck of a lot, but at high speed, I can feel it, and see it somewhat.

I've had this happen too and it seems to be from installing the foams. Even though they feel even, they really aren't. IMO, it's a PITA to get them even somewhat balanced (maybe I'm just too impatient). Another reason why I want real air-filled tires, or at least foams that are pre-formed like the ones you can get for buggies...

Yeah, cuz you should have seen the tires ballooning. Just imagine 3 feet of snow, then a driving start on the road onto the ditches (deep deep snow), then pulling full throttle (geared for ~45mph), and the tires grow to twice the size... it basically glides across the snow, it's quite a sight.

So, maybe it's because the tire balloons into a thin disk and bundles up the foam and perhaps wears the foam down?

Carefully drilling 2 holes oppositely on the running surface of your tires might help. This is what i did with my badlands. This way dust and moisture/water can easely escape the tire while driving, thus helping with tire balance.

I use adhesive lead tape to balance tires, get it at golf shops. Most monster truck tires are pretty out of balance from the get go.

I balanced my 40 series with adhesive lead tape. i made a 6" long shaft with two bearings at the end and a 23mm nut in the center(rims where 23mm) the imbalance was HUGE.

however; i don't know if your truck has seen snow, but you must realize that the foams may also be soaked. this results in an unbalance as well.

Yeah no, no snow for a while now... they are bone dry. the tape idea might work, however, static balance and dynamic balance are two different things, if you know what I mean?

Yeah, those. Don't know how they perform, but they feel quite a bit firmer than regular foams, and they are pre-molded for the tires.

Any balance is better than no balance!

Yes, true, but honestly don't know if my tires are past the point of 'fixing'. I think there might even be 'chunks' of foam in there, because the imbalance almost seems to change from moment to moment.

I will give it a try, I'm sure it can't hurt. :smile:


BTW, has anyone else used the RD Logic "porcupine" tire on their truck? I have never seen a tire with so much grip, especially on grass, it appears as if the truck is on rails when making sharp turns. Just thought I would mentin that, as I give them two thumbs up!
