Direct to diff LST?

Since no one seems to want to buy my LST(http://www.radiocontrolzone.com/showthread.php?t=247033) I'm thinking about a direct to diff setup. Anybody put allot of power to the LST diffs? Will they hold up? Any motor suggestions?

I don't have your vehicle, but I'm going to do that. I have bought some mount that will allow me to do it with out a problem. I will use a Ofna MBX. I will do rear wheel drive at first, but later I will get a motor from Neu with long shafts on both sides like what B4max has.

I was thinking a outrunner with a drive cups on each end like sikeston34m and others have done on the revo, emaxx, mt2 etc.
I just don't want to see this http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t...m/DSC06827.jpg

Are 5mm or 8mm drive cups avaliable? What is the gear ratio of an LST dif?

I'll be waiting for an answer on the drive cups as well. I couldn't find any info of the ID of a drive cup. I think the ratio of the LST is 3.3:1.

Edit: I just checked my Hyper 8 drive cup and tried on my 8mm shafted big*** motor and it's 8mm.

Lst diff is same as buggy diff ratio; 3.3. You may want to try muggy diffs, the ratio is 4.09.

Well any motor big enuff, your gonna need very high voltage to spin it fast enuff...
Here are a few choices

I was looking at something like these in the 500kv range. I'd like to run 4 cells

Anybody try the rim fire motors? They are cheeper than the AXI. AXI also does not have a 500kv motor in that size.

Hi Guys,

The Diff Picture that Desmo posted is the results of running Truggy gears. 10 tooth pinion on a 43 tooth ring. 4.3:1 gear ratio sounded appealing with the 5.75" tires. BUT the fact that they are spiral cut, tended to side load the pinion bearing like a thrust bearing.

Those are Ceramic Nitride Bearings (the best) and they were destroyed on the very first run. Spiral cut gears won't work with this type of direct drive application.

I have had success with the 13/43 straight cut diff gears, but to compensate for the higher ratio, I suggest using a tire that is smaller than a 5.75".

Mine worked with the 5.75" tires, BUT starting amp draw was really high which cut runtime alot.

@Brushless Boy - The Turnigy motor looks good, but those others look huge and I don't see any specs on those.

Why don't you guys put together something like this? It's a AXI 4130.

It's 6mm motor shaft is actually a stock output shaft to a Revo Transmission. Just knock the hump off the center of the shaft and it's a direct fit. Makes like easier in the driveline department too.

Plan on using CVD's also. These Plastic ones won't hold up.

I have tried this Rimfire motor in a Direct Drive to tranny input shaft E maxx application.

See that tiny set screw for the motor shaft? I couldn't get it to hold up under the stopping and starting. It only had one set screw. Multiple set screws is much better.

The Rotating Endbell would clang around making contact with the Armature also. Not Good.

I don't think the Quality of the Rimfire is up to par for this IMO.

Hey sike, the Turnigy 50-55 has an 8mm shaft.. perfect for 1/8th scale diff cups

Desmo 04.28.2008 12:05 AM

The axi 4130 looks good but the kv is to low.
How about

Brushlessboy how's it working for you? Did you get a mount made?

brushlessboy16 04.28.2008 06:23 AM

nope, you just need to run more voltage :D

That one might work pretty good. I've heard good things about the Turnigy Motors.

brushlessboy16 04.28.2008 07:29 AM

My 50-55 should be here shortly...
But you might need a bigger stator on an LST, with bigger tires, and more weight.
