Heat from Mamba Max esc
1.Two of my mamba max escs generate heat when throttle is at neutral.
Not much but enough to warm the heat sink to several degrees. Any other esc has the same situation? 2.I run mamba max esc with neu 1515 1/y and 16.8v in my G3R. Gearing is 20/66 and the temperature here is about 86 F . The motor is warm but the esc becomes pretty hot easily around 122 F above. I have a little Sunon fan on the esc and the wind blow is not much. I did not push the truck hard; just 5 min. bash in the asphalt road. Is it ok for the esc? Need I gear down when in grass field? Do you have any recommendation or it is the time for mamba max monster esc. |
the way i see it is that when you power on the mamba max even though you are not doing any running there is still power going through the esc in the board which would cause it to generate SOME heat.
correct me if im completely wrong on that try using a ubec and see if that will make any difference. when you say "is it ok for the esc" do you mean is 120 degrees ok? or running through the grass ok? both those scenarios are fine. you are pushing the little guy alot so expect high temps --- more volts than intended... neu... heavier truck than normal... your mm esc is getting a nice workout. also if you have the money then heck ya go for the monster! |
I am using UBEC with my mamba max esc and heat is generated in this situation.
This is what I forgot to mention. I have not noticed this in other escs. |
Did you remove the red wire from the controllers receiver plug? I had an issue like that a long time ago with another controller. I like to use RX packs and I noticed the same thing. Then I removed a jumper that disables the BEC and it solved the problem.

Sure. I did remove the red wire form the controller receiver plug.
How weird it is. |
That is strange.
|
yeah that strange, mine stays cool then not run or after hard run i see how temps drops to ambient

Even when you use a UBEC the "brain board" in the MM still supplies its own power. The MM uses linear voltage regulators that basically burn off the extra wattage to get it down to a useable voltage for the components, a UBEC uses a switching regulator so it doesn't have to bleed off any wattage.
You should expect some ambient heat when the MM is sitting idle. Most people either run within specs and don't heat up as much or just never notice it. 120*f is not at all too hot for an ESC, wouldn't worry about it unless it continues to climb in temp the longer it runs (a stable temp means the heat sink/fan is able to transfer the heat being generated, if it keeps climbing the sink/fan is not enough). |
