Your long term brushless reviews...

I just thought i would start a thread with every ones longterm reviews of their brushless veichles, we could keep this nice neat and short, please dont post your whole build but rather a link to that thread and/or a list of the setup your using, Just sum up your thought on the veichles overall, list the weak links and the good things about it. This is to help newcomers look into others experieces wiht veichles good and bad.

Ill start it off

My Lightning Staduim 10
http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/show...highlight=LS10 using a feiago 9L, mamba Max, ccbec, maxamps 3s 5000, losi dsm.

weak points: the dogbones, and body post (remove the clip and set the body as low as possible and theyll last alot longer)

strong points: diffs are tough, beefy suspension, and chassis is well balanced

Overall: in the last 6 months this truck has been given hell every time ive driven it (over 40 hours total). i have broken a shock cap and multiple dogbones, and a few body posts, which is nothing since this truck regularly sees 15 feet high 60 foot jumps off my fmx ramp, gets pounded at the track, and just really bashed hard. The truck is flat out tough hands down if it survives me it has to be, the bushless system i used works exceptly well for this veichle seeing 40mph, LOW temps, and 40+ mintues of runtime. its hard to beat the package. The only problems im seeing is spare parts are getting slightly harder to come by.

Next up my Trinity NOW
http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/show...hlight=chassis
it has a custom chassis i made, stock brushless setup, and 2s maxamps 2100 lipo

weak points : stock chassis is junk and the root of all problems, open diffs are loud, and the spur and pinion are open to dirt

Strong points: high quality stock electronics make it worth it to fix the truck

My setup on 2s has worked great for 3 months now with not a stripped spur gear since i built the new chassis, proving that its flexing and bending was the only problem all along. My setup isnt crazy fast but it will run about 25mph and still has explosize acceleration, and the 2100 provide about 45 mins of running on my track. it handles pretty good once you rebuild the shocks using 25wt rear and 30 wt front. I would recomend this truck to anyone who could build themselves a new chassis out of good aluminum like i did, The chassis is the only problem i have had. Its been a solid truck since the new chassis and alot of fun.

This is an absolutely awesome idea for a thread. Great job thinking of it. It will be very helpful to refer to when thinking of a new project. I am mainly looking forward to some FLM Savage reviews.

BL Revo: Mamba Max ESC, Koolflight UBEC, Feigao 9xl motor, TrueRC 4s2p 8000mah lipo, Hitec HS-5955TG servo

Weak points - I have been bashing it for quite some time now and the only really thing I have broke was one back and one front lower a-arm. Now they are all RPM and so far no problems. I also broke one of the pins in the tranny, but installed a thicker one, and the problem was fixed. The electronics were also the main part I was having the trouble with... the motor in particular. I got a defect the first time, and then it wasn't fixed properly the second time, but now I got a brand new one and its working great.

Strong points: Easy conversion, many upgrades and tips available for the Revo, very tough truck. Things rarely break no matter how hard it crashes.

DRIFT_BUGGY 04.29.2008 06:01 AM

I was looking at getting the Trinity Now expecially after reading the review XRC did. 41mph and only $189 on special at the moment at Amain. Comes with Castle Motor/ESC

bruce750i 04.29.2008 11:56 AM

BL-Revo2.5r basher / 8XL / FP3700 4s / hong kong ubec / mech brakes / 2-speed auto

pros= no broken $20.00 headers, no glow plugs, less down time. One time I lost a c-clip out of the drive train.

cons= bending a front tie-rod. Worn out ball joints and shock ends.

Soild r/c thats always RTR!

tc3_racer_001 05.11.2008 07:46 AM

e savage (not the nitro) with ammo 2600kv, 12 nimh, kool flight systems ubec, mamba max, larger wheels.
cons: shocks suck, driveshafts are weak, old diff outpus are weak
pros: more upgrades by the week (gcm/kershaw), easy fix for shafts/diff outputs, good to start off and then upgrade... but ive sold it now for a reason. just not stong enough when a mild brushless is installed! great strong truck on stock motors!!

great for a beginner like me, before moving onto a nitro-electric conversion :)

Great Idea with this thread... it's awesome..!!
-After my biggest upgrade Back then, The E-maxx. I try to keep all of my conversions stock as possible and have 2 or 3 of each. I now only get option parts when/if I keep breaking the same part(s).

Sportwerks Mayhem Pro

Feigao 12XL/6-8S1P A123 &(or) PQ3700mAh/OEMRC ESC/TrueRC BEC/Mech Brakes
+ / Driveline & Diffs are tough, haven't broken anything on this conversion yet.
- / Hard to fit batteries when wanting to use mechanical brakes.

Overall: I love this buggy! Stock components are just tough.

AE RC10T3

LMT Basic 4200/4S1P A123 &(or) PQ3700mAh/Schulze 18.61K/HXT BEC
+ / Drop in, and roll. Plenty of option parts.
- / MIP CVDs keeps breaking, stock rear knuckles keeps melting, stock front and rear shock towers are wimpy.

Duratrax Mini Quake SE

HXT 3800/2-3S1P Lipo 1500mah &(or) 5 Cell GP1100 2/3A/Mamba 25
+ / Drop in and roll. Tough little truck all around.
- / Pain in the butt to change spur gears, hard to fit 1800mAh or 2200mAh Lipos.

Traxxas Rustler

Kontronik Twist/3S1P PQ4400mAh/Schulze 18.61K/HXT BEC
+ / Parts were readily available, and price pretty good, Drop in and roll
- / Stock transmission and driveline need an upgrade to handle brushless power.

Traxxas T-Maxx

Feigao 15L/6-8S1P A123 &(or) PQ3700mAh/OEMRC ESC/TrueRC BEC
+ / Lots of option parts and are readily available. Light monster truck.
- / Stock driveline and shafts are wimpy, hard to fit batteries,

Overall: I wouldn’t do this conversion again, it’s really not worth the time and money spent. Just too wimpy, but if you have one, might as well convert it.

aqwut 05.11.2008 09:20 AM

Traxxas E-Maxx – All UE, Fastlane & ACNCM

Feigao 12XL/6S1P A123 &(or) PQ3700mAh/BK Warrior 9920/HXT ESC

+ / Super Strong, no plastic parts, Drop in and roll. Stock is an excellent starter truck.
- / Spent way too much cash to get it here

Savage(-X)

Feigao 7XL/4S1P TrueRC 6400mAh/Schulze 18.129F/HXT ESC
+ / Probably the toughest truck I’ve ever had. Perfect Basher!!
- / It’s really not that great for racing. Hard to make a motor mount for this conversion with a Lower CG.

Overall: Great basher truck, after the shimming method used by Serum, this conversion was just bullet proof. One of my favourite conversions as well.

AE MGT

KB45 11XL/8-12S1P A123 &(or) PQ3700mAh/OEMRC ESC/Lipo w/ HXT BEC
+ / Easy conversion, perfect weight distribution, lots of room for batteries, parts are readily available
- / Plastic Diff case sucks/slipper system on transmission is not the greatest/Stock A-Arms are weak.

Overall: After a few RPM Upgrades, it was tough. Again one of my favourite conversions.

Losi LST

Feigao 8XL/6S1P 4400mAh HXT Lipo and(or) 18Cell IB3800 NiMh/Warrior 9920/HXT BEC
+ / Easy conversions, Well balance, pretty tough after upgrades, has high and low gear option.
- / Plastic diff case sucks, and Stock A-Arms are wimpy.

Overall: After another RPM A-Arm upgrade and Aluminum diff case, this truck was tough. This also was one of my favourite conversions.

CEN GST 7.7

LMT 2280/5 Hi-Amp/8S1P PQ5000mAh/MGM 24.160/TrueRC BEC
+ / Like the Savage, a basher truck. Very strong driveline.
- / Heavy, Plastic diff case sucks, hard to convert, hard to find battery placement, Not the best racer.

Overall: NEED to upgrade the diff case to aluminum. Pain in the *ss to convert, but after all and said, this was my favourite conversion and truck.

suicideneil 05.11.2008 11:49 AM

Excellent idea for a thread.

GorillaMaxx

HvMaxx esc & Hv4400 motor with sintered rotor upgrade/4s2p cheapo lipos
+/ Bullet proof driveline, great handling
-/ Far too expensive to make an Emaxx this strong, too heavy

crazyjr 05.11.2008 02:38 PM

My G2R,

Neu 1515/2.5d/f 1700kv
Quark 125 esc
gorilla converted Emaxx tranny
strobe w/ 20/51
RC Monster 1/8 buggy diff conversion

Overall its bullet-proof, Can't complain about anything. Motor is a bit slow on 4s, but 5s is wicked. I did manage to break a rear diff pinion, but think it was a fluke (so far the only one of the V.1's to ever break). This setup and truck is very durable and doesn't run hot at all, My temps so far this year for a whole pack is 108*f for esc 120 tops for the motor and the batteries are barely warm. I am hoping to race it in the RC Pro next year, should be a good match for the smokers

big greg 05.11.2008 02:57 PM

3.3 revo,
1515 1y mm esc true rc 2s2p 8000's
pros-everything, handles amazing, more torque and speed than my local track can handle, and its a beast
cons-it took me 1200+ to get me here lol

losi 8ight buggy
feigao 8xl/heatsink mm esc zippy-r 4500 4s 21c-31c
havnt got to drive it yet, cant wait!

vxl rustler maxamps 3s 5000-kokam 3s 4800
pros-really good handling on rough terrain, takes jumps very well, corners well, its indestructable! i cant break it!

cons-runs hot geared stock, almost too much torque for itself really

pipeous 05.11.2008 03:08 PM

RC8 - Neu 2.5D, MM, Yuntong 5k Lipos, CCBEC, RCM motor mount.
Pros - out of the box it is dialed. very little is needed to drive fast. Very good rough track buggy
Cons - Center dif needs to be shimmed right away inside, could use little more steering. And make sure you get an updated kit or get the service pack. Also put a dab of ca on all the locknuts in the tower and under the steering plate or you need some funky bent tweezers to get them back if you need to take stuff off

B44 - Sidewinder 5700, Yuntong Lipos.
Pros - stock setup is dialed, chassis is sealed well so litle dirt gets in. A couple small mods found on rc10.com and it's just awesome (grub screw for front hinge pins and cut the rods a bit)
Cons - front shocks are too exposed and take damage on impact a little easy.

18B - Mamba 25/6800, Yuntong Lipos
Pros - Takes a beating. We run a lot and the only thing I have ever broken is the wing mount. Stupid fast. My most used rc.
Cons - again front shock shafts are very exposed and take damage, but the rpm front bumper solves that. Also the driven productions gear cover is a must or you'll be picking grit out of the spur constantly. Also needs upgrades to the steering servo save as the plastic gets soft fast and sloppy.

T4 - just got it, and it's still rtr. Ordered the JConcepts J82 conversion for it.

I am obviously an Associated fan. My first real rc was Associated. I like how they are tough and out of the box the stock setup is usually very dialed. I have changed little on most of them except tires, shock oil, dif fluids... minor changes to fit my driving style.
