trans upgrade e maxx
Hi, Im new here found this site threw traxxas I have a t and a e maxx we just converted the e maxx to the HV MAXX brushless system. we upgraded all the drive axles and put the huge swamp kong tires on it, well needless to say my son got to play with it for about 2 min. when it ripped the diffs apart. the truck had so much tourghe when he floored the throttle the truck did a complete flip and landed back on its wheels lol. anayway I orderd the maximizer diff kits with robbinson gears to take the tourghe Ive been told the trans will hold the tourghe. can someone tell me if it will for sure if not what do i need? :D ( I know that the tires have alot to do with my problem but my son loves the tires. I have to make this work for him lol!!!!)

The tranny is pretty tough. At the most, you may need some steel idlers (http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...03idler&cat=40).
Glad you and your son are having fun! |
Thanks, Love this site if you guys dont mind I think I will hang around lol. My son was born paralized from the chest down we both love this hobby. Ill do what ever it takes to keep him competive in this sport lol. I need good hop up info and my local hobby store does alot, but there is still alot that is new to them. thanks, for your time and advice. Aaron

Ditto with the idler gears.
My son loves the RC's as well. He was born profoundly deaf. I know what you mean when you say, "whatever it takes.":) |
Of course we don't mind you hanging around! Tough luck for your son, but at least his dad does what he can to make the best of the situation. I rather enjoy the hobby myself!
|
Thanks guys.

how well are the slipper and slipper pegs holding up? I had to run 12 pegs and little to no slip using the stock spur/slipper setup. I had no trouble with the stock idlers, but that was only one experience. As they say here though, upgrading the idlers would be wise. What brand CVDs did you upgrade the sliders to?
|
Before i purchased the hv maxx i called novak, they recomended that i change the spur gear and slipper set up to the robinson racing slipper clutch kit (72 tooth double disc). i still had to run it a little tight, but i think thats becuase of the monster size tires we put on. After fine tuning the robinson clutch. my only problem was the stock diffs lol. I went with MIP CVDS center and axle kit.(a little more money but everyone around here says they are worth it). I still have a lot to learn about the R\C hobby, but Im hooked for good. Thanks,
P.S. They are out of the idlers but im on the e mail list when they get some in lol. |
have you reviewed Novak's gearing recommendations for the HV-Maxx? I know Novak changed them since the original product release.
|
Yeah, you can find the changes on the novak site. It's an adendum..
|
I would think that, RC - Monster Mike could hook you up with some UE steel idlers, as an option.
|
My idlers will be back in stock any day, actually. Probably before I could get the UE idlers.
|
The only thing I could find @ novak was for the spur and pinion gears. I have changed that to what they recomended. Im just wondering since the hv maxx ripped both new diffs out, once I change them over to maximizers will it then start to tear up the trans. Ive been told the trans is pretty strong, but I think Ill still get the idler gears from mike just to be safe, exspecialy since we are running these huge swamp kong tires lol.

Hey Booda, I just found this thread.
Just a thought: You may want to adapt the Novak gearing recommendations to your increased wheel size. I don't know about your wheels, but if they are bigger, I would re-calculate the gearing. Let us know when you need any help. About busting diffs or driveline components .... there's always something that "can" break. But the idlers are a good idea, for sure. Sorry to hear about your sons' handicap. I wish you guys all the best, and good luck with the trucks. |
Thanks, Ill check on the gearing for the wheels and tires. I hope after the upgraded diffs and idler gears we can play. Have any of you ever delt with the ultrmaxx trans. kit? From what I can find out, it was a great upgrade for the e maxx but is no longer in production is this true?
P.S. Dafni, Thanks for the regear info. I may have to have your help on that calculation thing lol. maybe you can give me the formula to get the write gear ratio? oh and my son does not let his handi cap slow him down lol. He finds away to do anything he wants. trust me lol (he is my hero) |
