Brushless VIllain IV dual motors?
What would I need to do to set up an esc for dual brushless motor with different rotations?
|
I don't think you can do it on the Villain with one ESC because the motors are attached to different spur gears.

I didn't pay much attention when people were putting in dual valenons in their emaxxs, but I just read they needed two esc.
Thanks for the responses. I doubt I will do it if it needs two. But I am still curious about how I would go about selecting a brushless motor for use in a boat. Would the 35000/volts=kv still apply for selecting a motor? |
it all depends... which prop you're using... and your gearing...
|
Boats with a gear box setup like the villian can use a smaller higher kv motor, as they have the gear reduction to make up for the loss of torque. A direct drive setup benefits from a larger motor that can make more torque. Final gearing is dtermined by prop size/pitch. I would think that a pair of sidewinder 4600kv sytems on 3s lipo each would be a good setup for the villian. Not sure about what prop to suggest, but the stock ones would be a decent starting point.

It is also my understanding that the villain becomes very unstable above 30 mph.

Man forgot about this thread when I found my villain had sunk to the bottom of the bathtub. I did take all the electronic out and sealed them in a ziplock bag. THen placed it back in the boat to see where the water line would be with two batteries and all.
The brushless set up was just a thought. I removed the msc that came with the boat and the pair of stingers. I bought the water cooled heat sink for the evx out of my old maxx and was going to run it with the titans for now. I wasn't really looking for a lot of speed right now. I will have a hard time spending a whole lot on it. Can't justify the $ for the amount of time I would use it. It will be a long term project. I read it was pretty hairy after 30 also. Offshore electric is out of stock on the carbon fiber props for it. I did by the Villain EX props, read they were an improvement over the stock props. I might try my hand at some custom fins for it to help. First to keep it dry. Thanks for you guys help again. If I do go brushless I am sure I will add to this thread asking which what and where. LOL just read the sig your using right now Lincpimp. |
