2nd speed lock out
i found this in a different forum and I thought I could share this to our members thanks to eric173
Okay guys, all done! Here are some pics. most are self explanatory. Here's a few tidbits of info. I made note of the way the bottom gear would rotate when the e-maxx moves forward. I was careful to screw the drive dog to the bottom gear so that the forward slack would be taken up. There won't be any stress on it this way, and no slack in the tranny! I used a 4mm tamiya shoulder bolt, nut, and washers, as a tranny plug where the shift lever use to exit the tranny. 3mm tamiya hardware replaces the screw pin that went thru the shifting fork. 6x12 plastic clod bushings ( 3 ) were used as spacers on the bottom shaft. ( 2 ) .5 mm washers and ( 9 ) 5x8 oilite bushings take up the slack on the top shaft and hold the case bearing in place. Believe it or not, those 9 oilites weigh far less than the small top gear I removed from the top shaft. Everything was spaced to the exact original specs as measured with my digital calipers. I found it funny I had just what I needed to make it come out right, Yaaa! on with the pics: http://rap.midco.net/norbert/1.bmp 1. I can't see the pictures! I certainly would like to see the inner workings of this. I am particularly interested in how he took up the slack inside the tranny, as I have not done that on mine.

Thanks, Norbert. That is pretty much exactly what I did to mine, except I didn't screw the drive dog to the lower gear. I also used a brass spacer on the top and bottom shafts to take up the space (no bushings). Thanks for posting this. It should certainly help anyone interested in performing this mod.

No problem Mike. I have been trying to find the supplies for me to do this but I cant find any. I tried my LHS and hardware store but no luck. Unfortunately I sold my tamiya kits.:mad:

It isn't necessary to use the Tamiya stuff. Basically, anything that fits the shaft will function as a spacer.
